99 cent winner wants 1 week extension

My friend ran an auction which she started at 99 cents and that is all  she got for it. The lucky winner emailed asking if he could have an extention of 1 week to pay. 

What do you guys think about this?

Can't get my head around this.

Are we really this poor in Australia?

I think the price is of no issue. Thats what happens if someone starts at a low price. As for the extention well it's up to u friend. Be it .99cents or $999 a bidder should make sure they have the funds before bidding. and just a quick note yes there are some families in Australia who are doing it tough and sometimes they may not have the .99 cents but then they shouldn't bid
