A buyer wants to cancel the transaction after the auction has ended and they were sucessful.

Twelve hours after the auction ended, the winner bidder contacted me to say that a child accidently bid on the item and that they wanted to cancel the item.  I am VERY unhappy with this.  How do I proceed?

A buyer wants to cancel the transaction after the auction has ended and they were sucessful.

Unfortunately I had this situation arise last night. However, after receiving the message from the buyer asking to cancel because they bid in error (though they bid twice) my research revealed that they had also bid on two! other similar items at approx the same time!!! I suspose they won 2 or 3 of the auctions and then decided which one they would go ahead with.......despicable.

I'll be waiting the 4 days to lodge the failure to pay report along with this extra information (and hopefully eBay will take very stern action). Can someone please advise when I can relist the item in question OR offer a second chance to the underbidder. Any guidance is appreciated. Also, is a refund of the Final Value fee a given in these circumstances? Thanks.

It's not considered polite to drag up old threads, especially when the question is, at best, tangentially related to the OP.

However -

You can open a NPB dispute after four days of the sale date and close it four days later. Both are to the second and you can't do either before the time allowed.

If the buyer doesn't pay in that period, after you close the case you will get your FVF credited and can then relist or offer a second chance. It is not unknown to let the second best bidder know that the winner has refused to pay and the item MIGHT be available at x time.

The only action eBay will take is to issue a strike to the buyer. Prudent sellers have their blocks set to block serial offenders.

You still get the FVF refunded if you select that you mutually agree to cancel the transaction and select the Buyer purchased the item but accident.

Why get so worked up and give a buyer a strike when they were nice enough to Email you to ask to Cancel the transaction. I have over 50 Non-paying bidders every month and if I got so worked up over every single one, I'd be over the cliff by now.

My rule is if they contact you to ask for the cancellation (I couldn't care less about the reason), I'll just do a mutual one so they don't get a strike. If they don't, then yes, they deserve one.

It's up to you if you cancel or not. I would just to save u the hassle of the seller not paying or leaving u a neg.

An MC allows a buyer to leave a neg. Closed NPB doesn't. Or ebay will remove it.

I don't understand why so many sellers are allowing cancellations. It really confuses me. How does the seller ensure that the buyer will see the cancellation email, agree to it, and then leave no feedback? I have seen so many neutrals from buyers which say 'I cancelled the transaction'. Not the seller's impetus to cancel, but the buyers! And for that, a neutral for 12 months. I just don't get it.

I once had an overseas buyer who didn't read the postage cost properly and asked to cancel. I sent the request, and she never responded. Had to wait a full 7 days for the FVF credit. Then, later, I saw that she left positive feedback. However, I think she might have given me 3 stars across the board because no item was sent/received. I think sellers are taking a risk, and it is also sending the message that cancellations are easy to come by...

Mine is a bit different and I know it's an old thread but I had a non paying buyer and opened a case and right at the second last day of the case the non paying buyer decided to pay just so they wouldn't get a strike.  Their excuse was they were in hospital and just got out this person was cunning and I asked for advice from Ebay and they said if they pay you will have to go through with it. So the buyer paid and then said can they have a refund I knew what was going on and I knew I was stuffed because either way I was going to get negative feedback from them. So I refunded the money to save sending the item because I didn't want to go through a return despute from them as I just knew that would be next and I received negative feedback from the buyer that left a smart remark message to me  after leaving it. I phoned Ebay again and told them about this and they said they couldn't do anything about it as the buyer had eventually paid and they can leave whatever feedback they want. So I messaged the non paying buyer back and said. YOU IDIOT DO YOU THINK FOR ONE MOMENT I  BELIEVED ANYTHING THAT CAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH AND YOU WERE THE NON PAYING BUYER REMEMBER GO TO HELL. I replied to the idiots negative feedback and said this idiot was a non paying buyer at least that made me feel better.

2 points I'd like to make firstly yep it's a very old thread lol.

And when a seller replies to negative feedback you need to put the buyers ID in the reply so others can see who the buyer is.

Others may come hear and add their own wisdom as well.
