Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences recently, to be honest I am a little disappointed with eBay as I believe someone has been reading my "my messages" with the intent of catching me out as a fee avoider (ironic since eBay collect around $10k in eBay fees from me annually and have done so over the past 15 years).
I received a message stating that I had been caught trying to avoid fees and must change my behaviour within 3 days or face discliplinary action.
May 24th buyer sends me a message wanting to make a time to inspect a very expesive item before bidding on it. I respond with the times our warehouse is open for inspections,
eBay must be trawling my inbox (perhaps flagged that the buyer sent their phone number in the message) - pulls 2 lines from a 10 line email to me and claims I have breached policies.
Here is the extract eBay sent me,
BUYER: My number is 0458 022 XXX
SELLER: I could either make it late Saturday afternoon or perhaps Sunday afternoon, which would suit you? Jason
I did not include my address, email or phone number in my reply to the buyer, I did not offer to sell outside the platform, the buyer obviously already knows who we are and just wants to attend our warehouse to inspect the item.
So on May 24th the above happens and on 31st May eBay sends me a threatening email and tells me to change my behaviour within 3 days... are they serious?
So my question is - If someone contacts me via mymessages wishing to inspect something before buying - What is the correct protocol when a buyer wishes to make a time to inspect an item (which is a pretty common occurance for us over the past 15 years) ?? Are we supposed to ignore them or tell them no..... has eBay come to this??

I only have it on Auction listings so they don't need to pay straight away and can wait for an invoice.

LOL. Well done that one.
The contact details (plus other stuff) showing in the description area is a JPEG image sized at 15cm (H) x about 42cm (W) so it just fits nicely across the screen area.
He's done it all on a white background so it looks like its text but its not. Adobe PS (or any other graphics package) will make this nicely for you. This will work until the bots are modified to make use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This software exists now to scan image files but I guess ebay have not implemented it as yet. This would be why you can get away with taking a photo of a piece of paper with your contact details in it and then attaching that image to a message. The bots cant scan the image (yet...).
As for the contact details he has put into the item location field... I guess the bots are not scanning that field just yet.

This sort of thing has just happened to me over a Auction I ended (no bids had been placed tho). Just got a warning about a vintage piece of jewellery I had going to auctio. Someone here contacted me & said they would offer me an amount that was worth selling it for. We negotiated & agreed on a price (there was 3 watchers but no bids) So I ended the auction, relisted it as a special order for her. She paid & I sent it to her. NOW I get a message from Ebay warning me about selling it off Ebay... when obviously I sold it on Ebay & they got their share? Now they are giving me 3 days warning to check other listings (what listings?) ... So what did I do wrong?... I thought you could end an auction if u wanted to! Any ideas please?
