Advice please on paypal for local pickup only

One of my listings is a local pick up only which i do not want paypal on this item. I want to be paid cash at pick up which i have stated in the listing.

Why do I have to have paypal on this listing? If i sell this item and it is paid paypal and they do pick up - how do i cover myself for an item not received dispute.

There is no seller or buyer protection on PIck Up items.. As the buyer is expected to look at it before taking it.. If they do pay with PayPal, you can either refund them and insist on Cash on pick up only or you can let them pay with PayPal and inform them that there is no buyer protection for pick up items.. 

If they do pay with PayPal and try to pull a swifty on you, all you have to do is inform PayPal that the buyer picked the item up, therefore forfeiting any PayPal protection..

There is no PayPal protection for pickup items, so neither seller nor buyer can claim if it's paid that way.

I would put something along the lines of "Please Note: There is NO PayPal buyer protection for this item. Cash payment on pickup preferred." somewhere prominently in your listing. I would also email the winner with this information as soon as it sells, and (hopefully) before they pay.

Unfortunately, there is no way to not offer Paypal (or another 'safe' method) except for cars and boats and things like that.

1. If there is no protection on a pick up only, why will ebay not allow me to list without Paypal?

2. Would it be wise if they do pay paypal and do do local pickup, to make them sign for the items as being picked up?

I'll have a crack at this one,

scam artists would quickly realise that they can list 'pickup only' items without PayPal or any other safe method for items that can and will be posted e.g. list an As-New Canon 1100D Digital SLR for $500 with pickup only and payment by Bank Deposit or cash on pickup BUT state in their listing that they are willing to post at buyers expense.  Scammer lists without PayPal, interstate buyer buys the camera, pays by Bank Deposit (including the extra for postage) and then never receives the camera.

No camera, no refund, no protection!  Scammers would do all their listings this way.

Even for 'pickup only' items where PayPal is offered the buyer can request an invoice with some postage showing, and have an eBay message trail that shows communications with the seller regarding them agreeing to post.

I would include this statement in a 'pickup only' lisitng but probably add one more little bit so that it reads

"Please Note: There is NO PayPal buyer protection for this item. Cash payment on pickup preferred.  Buyer gets to inspect before paying."

I feel that this would ease potential buyers concerns regarding cash on pickup as you are telling them that they get to inspect the item it before they pay.

If a buyer pays with Paypal for a pick up only item it allows them to buy using a credit card if they don't have enough cash for the item however would someone please let me know if a charge back on the credit card is possible in such a situation?

Yes Bump a chargeback would be possible and the seller would definitely lose as they cannot prove postage.
