Alternate Mailing Address (not from PayPal)

We occasionally get a customer who buys an item from our store and then we get a message asking if we can mail to a different address because it is for a gift.

I know that sellers lose protection if we mail to an address that does not come from PayPal.

We will normally grant the request (unless it is out of country) but I always feel a bit uncomfortable doing this.

Anyone else get these? If so, how do you handle them?

Re: Alternate Mailing Address (not from PayPal)

They can easily add the 'gift' address to their PAYPAL account details - takes but a minute - and can be explained to the buyer just as you have in your second sentence. Happy New Year

Not often, but how I handle it generally depends on how the order is going to be sent. Most of my items don't qualify for Seller Protection anyway as they go as large letters (unregistered), so for me it's not an extra risk to send to a different address than on the PayPal notification. However, if the purchase is of high value, I do send them registered whether the buyer pays for it or not, so in those circumstances I inform the buyer (if they have already paid), that I will need to refund the payment so that they can repay using the correct address - I also add that having the correct info on file will help me follow up things much more easily on the odd chance something goes wrong. Half the time they say not to worry about it and to send to the original address, the other half they seem to be happy to repay using the correct address.

Yeah our stuff is mostly large letter too, unless someone requests Express or the order is too big, in which case we use click n send lodged over the counter.
You are right DG it's really not that much more added risk anyway I guess.
And it's not that frequent we get it, maybe once per month at best.

Addresses added to Paypal have no relevance in an ebay transaction.

If you want Paypal seller protection then you have to send to the address that is displayed in ebay checkout when the buyer goes through to pay.

If you are sending by a method that does not carry protection anyway then it is pretty well up to you which address you send to, if the buyer says it hasn't arrived then you cannot win a dispute regardless.

If you want seller protection you need to contact the buyer and tell them they have two options, you can send to the address as it appears in Paypal or you can refund their payment then when they go through checkout again they have to change the delivery address to the one they want it sent to.

Only ever send items to the address provided by Paypal, otherwise you void your Seller Protection.

Contact the buyer, tell them to add the other address to their Paypal Account and choose that address when paying after you have sent them a new invoice.

Re: Alternate Mailing Address (not from PayPal)

Since we have already foregone our seller protection by mailing out the items as large letter then per previous posts above there seems very little additional risk to us by mailing to an alternative address.

Used to happen a lot when I bothered with AC. I don't expect anything much has changed.
