I've had this several times, winning bidders wanting a discount. A few even refused to pay if I didn't. What part of the bid comfirmation process don't they understand? How can I politely tell then to get stuffed?

Easy just politely say to them "get stuffed"

your listings say "combined postage available" so are they asking for discounted postage?

Usually for a single item and I post at cost. They want a straight discount.

Never had this on a single item.
But quite common if they win multiple items to ask for a combined postage discount which we are more than happy to give.
But if your items are FREE post then ebay don't allow discounting on the amount. If you try to put in a negative/discount amount on the invoice you will get an error.

They want to try to under-bid the second highest bidder, basically, win the auction, re-neg on their bid and cheat the next bidder out of the item.
I don't see why I should do it. I've found that replying to their first request with a 'no' and say that non-payment will be reported, then ignore all subsequent requests. This usually works.

I honestly cannot see why someone would bid on something for more than they are prepared to pay. Is this some kind of new amusement for people instead of going out of an evening?
I agree, tell them to get stuffed only I wouldn't be so polite about it.
