Hello fellow-eBayers. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. I have been a buyer via Ebay for many many years and with 100% rating. I sold a few items some years ago, again with a 100% rating.
Over the last month or so we have decided to sell items. Gosh, what a disaster. eBay sought a copy of my ID (no problems there, this is the sign of the times). I have now sent my passport (a highly sensitive document) on three occasions and despite the accuracy and clarity of the document being confirmed, eBay are still sending me automated notifications that the document is invalid.
Through sheer persistence I eventually got to speak with a person by phone at eBay and who advised that the document was not "clear". I re-did this for the third time and on this occasion had it verified via the post office as valid, accurate and clear to the eye - but despite this received another message from eBay that it is not valid. eBay are currently withholding funds due to this and they have sent another message advising that if I don't verify it the account will be suspended in two weeks. I have since emailed back their customer service on four occasions, noting also that I will be formalising a complaint via the ACCC as eBay's behaviours now appear to be obstructive and intentional. I don't have a driver's license and so can't utilise this as another form of verification. Following on receipt of advice, I have today asked them to forward me a copy of the document they maintain is invalid (so that I can review what they maintain is the problem at their end) but they haven't responded.
I am truly at a loss as to what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hello everyone. The eBay verification problem has now been rectified. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is because I opted to seek assistance via the community forum but instead I will remain pleasant and simply say "thank you eBay for rectifying the problem". Thank you to all the eBay community who provided me with assistance. Regards.

I do not know what you expect the ACCC to do
All sellers are required to fully sign up for Managed Payments and be verified to sell
Nothing new, it has been that way for over 5 years
It is a risk sellers take if they choose to list/sell before doing what is required
Emailing is pointless, as it is simply bot automated and nothing to do with Managed Payments
There did used to be a 'dedicated' phone number, but if it still exists, I don't know
Even IF you had done as required before selling anything, your funds would have still be on hold for 30 days, as you agreed to when you listed
Did you take a photo of you ID to upload, or did you scan it and upload it?

As a Passport is not a document - what are you sending.

When you take a photo (or scan) of the passport, are you making sure that the image file or PDF is edge to edge, and of sufficient quality?

Does the name on the passport match your name in your eBay account exactly?

Further to the Countess' post, your bank account name should also match all documents

Thank you - I appreciate your help. Yes, I had make particularly sure that there was no blurriness, the edges of the passport are clearly visible and without any other impediments. Frustrating dealing with this. Thanks for your assistance.

Thank you - I appreciate your help. Yes, I have checked all that and all appears okay (and when eBay did a 'dummy run' (i.e. when they deduct and deposit one cent to check that the bank account is okay) there were no problems. Frustrating exercise. Thanks for your assistance.

What file size is your file? Is it an image file? What sort? Perhaps try saving as a PNG if you’ve tried JPG… or scan as a PDF if image is problematic. Are you sure it’s saved in colour?

Thanks again Countessalmirena, yes to all i.e. saved in PDF, yes saved in colour and yes within the size limits.
I have just done it again!!!! and re-sent it to them.
The difficulties I have had is that it is impossible to get to speak to a person within eBay and then when you do it is with varying degrees of success (or not).
Thank you again, I truly do appreciate your help.

"eBay are currently withholding funds due to this and they have sent another message advising that if I don't verify it

I really hope you can this sorted quickly deepdee
The fact that this site is full of Chinese sellers with awful feedback, dropshipping rubbish , lying about their location,
selling thousands of items often fakes, lying and cheating so their listings are shown above our Australian sellers in a search......
It makes me angry to see this has happened to you.
