Aust Post losing letters

Why is it that I can send trackable parcels and they never, ever go missing or get lost.  Yet I send small items as a letter and every second one mysteriously vanishes?  Do they not care about these items or do they take advantage of the fact that they aren't traceable and pilfer them?

I will be writing a lengthy letter to Australia Post tomorrow as I'm tired of having to refund buyers.  I guess I will just have to add the extra cost of Registration to them, but really....this shouldn't be absolutely necessary

Except SOD doesn't exisit at the moment due to social distancing. If a parcel is SOD, the postie can sign for it and safe drop it if no one is home.

I've had a few tracked items go missing.  So it does happen

Some posties may do this, but they are not supposed to and you can complain if they do.

The protocol for SOD items at the moment is to confirm someone is home, and do a contactless delivery if so, but if not, it's supposed to be returned to a PO for collection. I'm at the PO every afternoon and there's always people picking up SOD mail that was returned there for collection, so there are posties following procedure (at least in my area lol).

If you post over a counter you should have to use a red posting box

Re: Aust Post losing letters

To whoever said regular mail doesn't get lost, for me I have applied for a safeway everyday rewards card twice and it hasn't arrived either time. My guess is there are people stealing mail in my area to steal identity as my aunties 33 house apartment block regularly get mail stolen and she lives nearby.

Put a lock on your mailbox. Worked for me. For letter mail anyway. Parcels that are "safe" dropped at my front door, which is very unsafe, are still at high risk.

That may have been me, but I never said regular mail never gets lost. I said Australia Post doesn't usually lose the mail.

That's a different thing entirely.

I'm not saying they never lose anything, just that they don't go around losing 50% of the regular mail. They are much better than that.

If, for example, you're getting things stolen from a letter box or if you send things to a buyer and that buyer then lies about receiving it, that is hardly the fault of Australia Post.
