Australia Post Delivers to Wrong Address

This could have resulted in a lost postal item but due to the honesty of a good person did not.

We sent out a $12 item by regular mail (untracked) just before easter.

Today we received an email from a person to say she had received a package for a person who does not reside at her address.

The address we mailed to was U6 / 53-55 "A" Street, Hunters Hill

The recipient said she lives at U6 / 53-55 "B" Street, Hunters Hill.

Same Unit/Street number wrong street name.

Quick look on Google maps showed the two near identical addresses only about 150-metres apart.

I contacted the buyer about it who had not yet contacted us about a missing item.

She was very friendly about it and since it was not far away said she would be happy to go and retrieve it.

The recipient said its OK she will take a walk around and hand deliver it in person.

Fortunately I had a contact info (advertising) sheet included inside the envelope. The recipient had opened it up and found this so that is how she was able to make contact with us by email.

How good are some people hey?

I thanked her profusely and offered her to take a look on our web site and choose a free item for her honesty and efforts.

Just shows how closely AP posties read the address labels. Near enuff is good enuff.

Good outcome in the end. But could just as easily have turned out very badly.

Re: Australia Post Delivers to Wrong Address

Joe, I wasn't going to buy in on this thread, but I have too. I only use couriers (the company I work for only uses them) and I can assure you that there are just as many problems with couriers as there is with aust post. The amount of times things get delivered to the wrong address or they just leave the parcel without a signature is astounding.....we use StarTrack, fastways, tnt and e-parcel and there's not one better than the other. The amount of times I track parcels for customers only to find it's still "in transit" is a joke. And guess who pays for the re delivery......me.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion joe, regarding how they wish to post items, but to keep saying that couriers are a lot faster bla bla bla is soooooo wrong.

Re: Australia Post Delivers to Wrong Address

I ordered a laptop on ebay. seller sent it via Parcel post+signature. I kept tracking it from the office and finally it was on board with the driver. All of a sudden parcel was delivered at 11.51am when I was at work.
When I went home no card was left, nobody in the apartment complex has seen it. Item was simply vanished.

Called Auspost up and the operator told me someone has signed for it. How could it be? I was at work. He said there is some scribble starting with my First name. Asked me to send my licence to confirm my signature. Still awaiting for an answer from them.

In the meantime i did some research. Guess what? im not the only one. So many people have lost their parcels similar way. They were simply signed and delivered, but not the receiver who signed for it.

My incident happend in Dandenong vic 3175, Beware guys there is a thief delivering parcels for auspost in dandenong. I cant submit a paypal claim coz item was delivered. Insurance dont cover anything because again it has been delivered. Ive lost money and item.

Im sure Australia post doesnt do anything about this. This is not the first time, Ive had incidents with Startrack (owned by Auspost now) months back where they forgot to pick up my item from the warehouse 3 times in a row. and when received it box was damaged, but item was fine.

The Driver probably still has my laptop. This was dispatched from Clayton South, Vic distribution centre. If Auspost authorities read this, Please track down the driver. Delivery time as per tracking 11:51am Thu 21 Apr Dandenong, VIC.

Thank you

Re: Australia Post Delivers to Wrong Address

Give Australia Post a chance to make enquiries.

There is no way a contractor can just sign for an item and keep it without there being repercussions.

If the AP enquiry comes up with nothing there is still a chance that you can get your money back.

Go to your local Police station and lodge a complaint.   When you get the complaint number, go to paypal and open a dispute.  Lodge the Police number and a Stat Dec stating that you did not get the item.

You should get a refund.

Re: Australia Post Delivers to Wrong Address

The key point could well be 'apartment complex'.

You can see by the little grey and red balloons on the main board if you've posted on a thread.

See the top two?    If there's a little black arrow at the right, you've posted on that thread.
