Hi All
Over the last 4 or 5 weeks I have sent about 8 Registered Letters, Now Quote me if I am Wrong..Registered Mail is supposed to be Trackable From Point A to Point B. Every Registered Letter That I have sent in this period does not show tracking information untill it is delivered, on Australia Post Website. It will show Received By Australia Post at ******** SA and nothing until it is delivered. We are paying for a service which Australia Post are not supplying. If a letter is sent registered it should be trackable through each outlet it arrives at. We are paying for that service are we not?

Registered mail gives Proof of Posting if lodged over the counter and Proof of Delivery (signature) with both of these being online trackable in most instances. It does not track items every step of the journey.
Thank You Lyndal. You hit the nail in the head.
It does not track items every step of the journey.
So why are we paying $3.80 if it is not Trackable via AP Website? AP need to get their act to get act together.

It is trackable. On lodgement over counter and frequently (and hopefully) on delivery.

It's trackable at the first point of the journey ie: chullora and the last point which is the local sorting centre where the item is being delivered to and then delivered
and any where in between doesn't really matter and isn't really relevant to AP.

It does matter we are paying for a service With AP and every step it is accepted at should it should be scanned so as the sender can see it progress. You , I and 10'000 of others are paying for this service which AP are not supplying

But surely both buyers and sellers are already complaining about slow delivery services.
What you want is going to slow delivery of registered mail down even more than it is now if the delivery van has to stop at every little PO between point A and point B so every letter can be scanned again and again and again and...................
And there would be the potential for more mail to go missing if it is being packed and unpacked numerous times on its journey.

You're not suggesting the AP truck should stop at every town and the driver should spend a day or so scanning every item before he drives to the next town, are you? Or that everything should be fitted with RFID chips and scanners set up in every town/suburb in the country?
It would cost a lot more than $3.80 and if you think the system is slow now....
Otherwise, as suggested, they are likely scanned at the initial PO, any sorting centres along the way, the destination PO and the recipient. Or some of the above.

A lot of my parcels are only ever scanned at acceptance, then again on the day of delivery, so this kind of thing is not unique to letters (or, in other words, the tracking service is comparable), and while AP are now promoting registered as having online tracking, the $3.80 fee (as I mentioned above) is still giving you something of value above and beyond the tracking events (the SOD and insurance, which a standard parcel with tracking doesn't have).

i have an item that was posted 9am 17 may, went from wallaroo sa to granville nsw thursday 19, then to villawood nsw 6am friday 20, then back to granville 9.48pm 20th.
hasnt changed since then
i sent a message to buyer asking if its been delivered but had no response.
its either been delivered and all is well, or i'm waiting for a 'where is my item'
i'm guessing all is well as if it was me id have been asking 'where is my item' by now.
just a pain the buyer cant take 5 minutes to let me know.

The items should be scanned every time they are dropped off at a post office or mail sorting centre, not just at the counter of the seller's post office and again in the hands of the buyer (if it makes it that far to begin with). Then again, items in the mail shouldn't be going from point A to B via Z, 4, Q, another Q, a third Q and the Batman symbol anyway.
But in many cases items do not get "dropped off" anywhere once they have been picked up from a delivery centre, before being delivered to the buyer.
Are you suggesting that a contractor/courier needs to scan every parcel he has on board every time he stops to drop one off?
