Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

Not sure if people know about the latest derailment going to WA.

and a truck fire in NSW

Have copy and pasted but if it doesn't work its on the AP site.

A customer told me as I have couple missing letter rate parcels to NSW and sounds like about the same time.

  • Brisbane to Sydney truck incident 02 May 2014

A number of large and small parcels and unaddressed mail bound for Australia Post's Sydney parcel processing facility have been damaged due to a trailer fire on a truck travelling from Brisbane this morning (2 May 2014).   More

    • Train derailments affecting deliveries to Western Australia15 May 2014

The delivery of some parcels to Western Australia will be delayed by train derailments.  More

It may explain if you also have missing or parcels taking longer to arrive  to WA.

Please excuse if this has already be put on.

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

The truck fire has been mentioned before, but have not seen anything about the derailment, so good info.

AP are having a right old time of it aren't they?

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

Thanks for that.

Was just popping on here to try and find out about an item not delivered !

I posted to a buyer on 1st May and have has a message to say they have not got it. Post code 2540. The tracking says lodged and in transit but it has not moved from where I lodged it.

So this could be why.

What do I do?

Do I refund or contact Aus post or ??? I am not sure where to start. and , more importantly, am I going to be covered in anyway ?

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

Hi,  I would ring AP, not sure of the number, but will be in the phone book.

They know where they are,  but it seems it stays in transit until the customer signs.

Well that's what's happened to me before.

Mine weren't registered, so out of pocket.

Thank lowan, I just jumped on board.Smiley Happy

You should refund your buyer, simply as a goodwill gesture, (see below re paypal claim first) but registered or not, I would certainly be going to AP and seeing if there is any compensation you could claim, worse case scenario is they refuse, but ask the question, at some point they need to take responsibility for something that is  totally out of a sellers control, registered or not.

As for seller protection though, so long as you sent in a manner that proves postage to paypal any INR claim should be found in your favour, so I would tell your buyers to claim INR and paypal should refund you on proof of postage and buyer as delivery can not be proven by AP.

This way neither one of you should be put of pocket.

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

AP should compensate, at least they used to for any lost parcel worth under $50 i think it was, without insurance, or don't they do that anymore?. I think thats partly why they put in the tracking for all parcels now, too many fraudsters claiming for lost parcels maybe. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't compensate, just a sign of the times with AP going down the gurgler 😞

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

Ap has always stated that refunds are discretionary. They just seem to be using less discretion these days. And have for several years.

Re: Australia Post derailment again and truck fire

Hi everyone.

I lodged 3 parcels the morning of the 1st May, on the Gold Coast, all small parcels were Sydney bound.

Looking at past tracking advice, parcels I lodge firstly go up to Brisbane (Underwood), then down to Sydney.

All of them only ever had the 'initiated' stage in the tracking. Of course, all customers have emailed me saying "where is my parcel?".

A few days ago I contacted Australia post about them 'missing'. They are just dening everything and saying 'no insurance', etc.

I knew something was seriously wrong when all 3 parcels lodged together all go missing- I was thinking theft initially.

Then I just read this forum about this truck fire! the timing and destination are spot on. This is simply unbelievable that I stumbled on this forum- so thanks for posting!!

http://auspost.com.au/about-us/brisbane-sydney-truck-incident.html

So now I am going to go back to Australia Post to sort this out!! It won't be easy, but I am a seller with 100% positive feedback and this is terrible for a small ebay business!
