Australia Post registered for letters not in eBay drop down menus - why?

A change to the last eBay update meant that there isn't an option now for sending registered letters via Australia Post, either domestic or international.

There are only registered parcel options which is of no use to me as I sell stamps which I send out in letters!!!

Australia Post still have registered letters by the way.

At present I gve to use the registered parcel selection from the drop down menu's which must be confusing for buyers.

What do others do about this?

Thanks,

Tony

Tony the reason Australia Post have not added Registered Letters to their ebay options, is because Registered Letters are for correspondence only, and not for the shipping of ''goods'' according the the Aust Post terms and conditions.

so, as everything sold on eBay is ''goods'' and not correspondence, there is no need for Registered Letter post in the choices for shipping.

silly I know but that's Aust Post rules.

Australia Post is quite happy to let you register and insure anything which fits into the dimensions of a letter (you can't post non-documents by express but that's because of the sorting machines). I agree that the wording of the AP post calculator suggests that it's only documents that can be sent at letter rates, but if you look at the postal charge booklet

http://auspost.com.au/pdfs/ms11-post-charges-booklet-15-july-2013.pdf

it's quite happy to let you register "letters and documents", and there's no requirement for a letter to contain documents rather than valuables. (see page 11).

The ebay postal options have always been a pain (eg there's never been an airmail letter option), I usually just state what I'm actually doing in the description.

Just so its clear to other posters - the above is all incorrect information.

As another poster pointed out as long as the item can be sent in a way that is within the dimensions of a large letter, a range of goods can be, and are,  sent using registered post services.

The bonus too with registered post, is that it has a signature requirement and includes up to $100 compensation if it is not delivered, and it can be scanned on lodgement.

Don't worry. Just click on Standard Shipping (or equivalent) and let your buyers know in the listing description that it will be sent by Registered Post.

I usually select the standard postage option unless I need to send something calculated postage, that way I am not tied to using one particular delivery service after the sale.
