I sold a boat,(buyer" bought it now")without ANY communication.
I get to talk to buyer who claims the right of inspection before payment. Dispute registered, relist the boat and am experiencing exactly the same situation.Am hoping it turns out alright this time!
People indicate "buy it now", find it hard to contact them, then try to claim they have the right to inspect before paying, MEANWHILE THE SALE IS IN LIMBO, no one can offer/offers are cut off. People think there is something wrong with your item.
I also indicated that sale is Pay immediately on "buy it now" and same after discussion and agreement on" offers" also.
No one wants to put themselves out to arrange inspection, THEN, buy or offer.
THEY want to freeze your sale, don't pay(breaking a contract) then suggest they have been ripped off by others,so I AM THE SAME.
Not this little black duck.
What do ebay sellers/buyers think?

Paypal isn't done with such large items as what can happen is, they deposit the money, pick up the item, then go to paypal and say item never received [or something like that], and then paypal takes the money from your account and returns it to the buyer who then has YOUR item plus THEIR money leaving you with nothing.
Cash [or bank cheque] is the best way for someone to pay for something like a boat/car.

That is the attraction of payPal????? I have had one"customer" once that screamed at me that I did not offer the protection of Paypal. Not a nice story mum of goldens.
Ebay is sounding worse and worser, people saying ,that's how it works! I just heard that paypal is dearer! Sounds like a Monopoly playbank at Paypal! Regards

Even if they had paid with PayPal they would likely have no recourse, as with pick up items it's expected that the buyer will inspect the item before handing over any cash so therefore can't claim an Item Not as Described..

, where the sale wouldn't occur until agreed upon by both buyer and seller) no longer exists"
The discontinued format of the free to list 14 day Classified Ads with Best Offer didn't include the cars, bikes, boats category.
It was mainly just for household items.
Thanks - a classified ad may be a good solution for this case. (Apologies for the misinformation).
To stomper: some information on the classified format is here

Don't get me wrong. Paypal is great for other items, smaller items that are sent by post. For example, if I was buying a camera and paid via direct deposit, if I was dealing with a shonky seller I would end up with no camera and no money and very little I could do about it.
If I paid by Paypal then at least if the seller did not send me the item I could go through Paypal and get my money back.
I pay by Paypal for just about all of my purchases with no problems.

there is NO buyer or seller proctection for PayPal users on Pick Up items, so no point in paying them a % commission either.
golden--- paypal have removed the option for a buyer to act in the way that was possible a few years back, claiming non-rectipe for a pick up item. now any pickup item is simply not covered by either protection.
and ebay have removed the paypal box from the Motors section for that reason, it is the only area of ebay where you dont have to offer Paypal or Paymate.
