Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

Hello,

After purchasing quite a few things from "Australian" sellers recently through eBay, I have noticed that the packages are being sent from China.

How come these sellers are allowed to say their listings are from Australia when the packages come from China? It's obviously a deliberate misconception created to lure more buyers in.

People think they are buying from an Australian dealer when really they are purchasing another poor quality Chinese item.

Is this allowed? If so, why ?

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

I design my products here in Australia and they are manufactured and sent from China.  I show the location as China. In every listing I write (quite often in bold so hopefully people will see it) that I design here and they are sent from China and to allow about 3 weeks delivery. Quite often I will design something for myself and have received it within 10 days of the order which staggers me. I had to post x-rays to Brisbane (400kms away) and they took 2 weeks to get there.  I am always completely up front with all my customers however, the problem is that a lot of people just don't read the listing.

You are right corgidogz, but the difference is that you are doing the RIGHT thing. The OP is annoyed because his seller did the WRONG thing. So long as a buyer has all info they need, they can purchase happily, if they misread a listing, then they have only themselves to blame. Unfortunately, some sellers purposely withhold/misrepresent item location to get sales, and it is not right, especially this time of year when many are buying for Xmas.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

This is my complaint as an Australian seller.  I source and import goods to ensure the quality of what we sell.  Others advertise as 'Australian sellers' etc but are really either off-shore pretending to be here or dropshipping without telling customers.

peters

they are 2 different situations. sellers pretending to be here is bad. drop shippers who are here & have stated the goods coming from asia dont have any obligation to divulge they are drop shippers. mostly people dont understand what that means anyway so why confuse people with a sellers method of obtaining stock to sell when the item location & delivery time is all they are obliged to know.

you obvioulsy import a lot , drop shippers sont always have the finance to do that. the customers are winners both ways as long as sellers are honest as mentioned.

cheers

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

fix, i am astounded to hear that number of days ??

i had an express delivery recently from a supplier near hong kong.

i tracked the post process , one day at their local sort centre, next day at hong kong sort centre, next day at singapore sort centre & then shipped. this was a clothing item.

entering the country maybe go through 3 diff sort centres if they are that paranoid but leaving the country ?! resorted at 2 major cities ??!

i have yet to receive a watch i paid for on the 30/10. no tracking.

ive been told 7-21 days, then 7-30 days then lastly do you mind waiting a little longer sometimes takes 45 days??!

no thanks straight to paypal. anyway you cant claim on paypal after 45 days from memory.

why all the lies. i doubt theyd be rushing off to make clothing as it sells, that wouldnt be economical. theyd have to either produce or buy in bulk.

ive had 2 items listed that have been out of stock the day after!

to buy anything in & then list means paying extra for post. to pass that on is not fair & not competative.

i just dont get why they cant be upfront with people in the first place. maybe thats the way they do business & its accepted there but australians appreciate honesty & the choice.

a friend of mine has a friend who imports from thailand when the stock is ready to be loaded into the container he flys over for the day checks it & flys back. he considers the airfare worth saving any problems later.

people shouldnt have to do that to deal with any business no matter where its located.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

ps

ive also recently suggested to ebay that sellers should be allowed to enter their own number of days an item will take to deliver as the set days that come up have to be incorrect for somewhere.

i cant imagine anything coming from alaska to be the same number of days as from new zealand eg.

it can be a problem also as mentioned some buyers dont read the print. even if stated in the post section the delivery can take longer than 7-20 days they may not read it.

i have stated re combined post clearly & people still email to ask if its offered.

a blank field is all thats needed next to the drop down menu for post methods.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

Ever contacted an eBay seller who says theyre in Australia and said:

'Hey its been 2 weeks and my item still hasnt arrived'.

Their reply is 'We will send you another one'. Funny how they are just so giving without question....

Then low and behold your item arrives 3 days later?

Im guessing thats the first original item but we're suppose to think its the 2nd replacement. I have a feeling it was ordered from China and sent to them, then they send it to you so it looks like its Australian shipping its the only answer!

Im currently waiting for an item saying its from Sydney but the seller is based in China. Its only been a week so far, thats already given me the impression ill be waiting another 2 weeks cause shipping is only suppose to be 3 days from Sydney to my place...

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

Hi,
I hope you understand that the sellers are liable for lost items. I ship through Australia Post and it can take up to 21days (from the date of postage to the day it arrives) for items to arrive sent from one place to Australia to another. This may sound ridiculous and I would agree but there has been plenty of times items have taken this long to get to customers. This doesnโ€™t happen all the time but happens often enough; sellers do not have any control over Auspost delivery times. Items also on the odd occasion go missing (for which Auspost basically take no responsibility for) Most good sellers will replace these items at their own cost, because at the end of the day eBay holds them responsible for the missing item and most are trying to offer great customer service.
Cheers Chris
