Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

Hello,

After purchasing quite a few things from "Australian" sellers recently through eBay, I have noticed that the packages are being sent from China.

How come these sellers are allowed to say their listings are from Australia when the packages come from China? It's obviously a deliberate misconception created to lure more buyers in.

People think they are buying from an Australian dealer when really they are purchasing another poor quality Chinese item.

Is this allowed? If so, why ?

If I purchase an item and pay extra because it's supposed to be shipped from Australia so I get it sooner and it is shipped from China. I start a paypal dispute saying item never received as soon as the due by date passes.

These lying, dishonest sellers never register the parcels so there is no way for them to prove you haven't received the item. Stuff them I say. If they're going to lie about the shipping location so they can charge more, and I pay extra so I can get it sooner, then I'm going to lie about receiving the item if it's shipped from China and make them loose money. They may eventually get the message and stop trying to rip people off.

Ebay really need to do something about this as I'm over it!!!!

Now dave . . . . . this poster has given us an insight into their character and buying philosophy.  I think they have done every seller who reads their post a favour.  Surely that alone would let us forgive them for dragging up a thread that was started on 12/12/2012 now that they have provided a character reference for free!.

I know I am grateful they posted.

I also think eBay need to do something about low-life thieving lying buyers who make deliberate false claims for Item Not Received.  Identifying them can be problematic, unless they are so cocky that they declare such in a public forum!

It's called "Drop Shipping".

Yes, it's legal.

Ethically it's a practice frowned upon by the ACCC.

Technically, you can have a link to every product on Earth. The Buyer places an order from the Seller who then places an order with his product source who posts it straight to you, pocketing the difference between wholesale and retail prices. No stock, no capital outlay, and in my personal opinion a disgusting unethical practice.

As a consumer, you have a right to complain.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

I think you have read more into my post than what was said.

Judged, sentenced, thrown away the key.

eg.

Just recently I orderred on a Thursday from a "Sydney" based seller, two 16gb USB drives. I needed them for the following Saturday week.

They had not shown up by the Friday before (a week after posting) so I was forced to pick up a couple from Kmart. When they did eventually turn up three weeks later. In big black texta I wrote "Return to Sender" and threw them back into a postal box. I did notice no return shipping address. Their loss, not mine.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

If they were time sensitive why wouldn't you buy them from K-Mart in the first place?

I doubt K-Mart are out of the ballpark on a price vs quality basis.

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

These things work both ways you know.

A while ago I was looking for a large number of CD/DVD plastic sleeves.   My only criteria was CHEAP....time didn't matter at all.

Needless to say most of the listings were from Chinese sellers....most were within a few cents of the same price with Best Offer options.

Then I came across a listing that was supposedly in Australia so I used the Best Offer and got the item for 50cents less than the average.  i paid on Sunday evening and sat back to wait till the items arrived from China.

I nearly fell over when the items were delivered by Australia Post at 7am the next morning.....just 15 hours after I paid.

Needless to say, the seller got several more orders from myself and other family members.

how so?  This is what I read: ". . . . I'm going to lie about receiving the item if it's shipped from China and make them loose money".

Seemed pretty clear to me then, and now.  These are your words, not mine!  It lets us know a bit about your "character".  If I was to read more into it than what was said I'd probably have had my post moderated and copped a suspension from these boards, but I'm not about to do that.  The scenario you outlined where you RTS'd a package that clearly had no return address could warrant further comment about that action, but I will refrain.

You have been on eBay for 14 years, and I think you have enough experience based purely on your feedback score.  These USB drives you bought are pretty cheap at a range of stores like Officeworks, Harvey Norman and the like.  If sourcing them was time sensitive why not just buy them from a physical store rather than on eBay?  Memory sticks and memory cards are one of the most faked items on eBay so why risk it?  Buy from a physical store and you can take them back for replacement if they are duds, much less hassle than an eBay MBG or PayPal claim.  Or am I reading too much into what you said?

Re: Based in Australia, Shipped from China?

instead of going off  to the buyer of these usb products .and telling hin wear he shoud buy products ,

its up to him to buy from where ever ,he wants to , in his mind and ebays estimate time frame , 9 days from sydney to who knows where is plenty in his mind and ebays estimates.

maybe you and others should advice him what he should of done or do if the time past and he had to buy another lot from a store,

what is he sopose to do whitha new lot. ok these were only usb sticks , but what if it had being a tv or what ever.

i am not saying what he did was correct at the end , but maybe some of you who are experenced board posters , give him a better answere than [buy the things from k-mart]

at worst he coud of kept the items  and say he did not get them , and would of prob won the case, mind you they will end up in a big box at the postal place somewhere as to no senders address.

First you back the practices of dishonest sellers then talk about someone else's character that is the kettle calling the pot black LOL. He/She would not 'dragged' the post up but found it by doing a search yes maybe they should of checked the date and possibly started a new thread. The fact though that a thread from 3 years a go is just a relevant, if not more, now shows how little EBay care and your ranting and raving is a LOT to do with how EBay can continue allowing bad sellers get away, with things like this, and do nothing.

In my eyes ANYTHING done to stop these dishonest sellers is good and hopefully just possibly stop a lot of people getting ripped off. A lot of these sellers are just increasing their rating and a lot are closed after ripping a lot of people off with larger priced items later on. Buyers should not stand for bad seller and it should not matter where they are China Australia or anywhere else.
