As eBay has been unhappy with some of my photos, and I also wanted up upgrade a lot of them, I have been systematically going through my unsold items in preparation for this 200 free weekend. (Normally I would just click on 'relist' the lot.)
I have been unpleasantly surprised to find that some of my listings are apparently now minus photos (they were there on the original listing), others have been converted to HTML (and as I don't even know what it is I would never use it!!), some typefaces have changed to what I originally formatted.
The missing photos and the HTML are what concern me most. Would one of you who seem to know eBay inside out please explain how this could happen. I haven't changed anything from the original listing - so why????
No wonder certain items haven't attracted much interest if buyers can't see what I'm selling, or it's in whatever language HTML is in....!!!

I have no idea why this is happening with you, I rarely use relist, I use sell similar as then you start at the beginning of the first page.
I have a lot of pics that are not up to standard and ebay keep telling me things will sell better if I update them however my sales are pretty well an even spread between substandard and up to standard photos so I am not going to waste my time altering them unless forced to.

A quick question PJ, do you know if ebay intend to automatically delete listings that dont meet the photo requirements, sometime in the future ? I have around 150 all up and dont really want to change them all. Like you it makes no difference to sales.

HTML = Hyper Text Markup Language
For an example, right click anywhere on this page, then choose from the menu "View source"
This is HTML

I reckon you need to keep in mind that it may be that
- the photos just won't appear or
- you won't be able to relist if the photos don't meet the requirements or
- worse case scenario ... eBay ended listing issued with a policy violation

Like you and PJ I had resisted all attempts by eBay to update my photos that suddenly didn't comply with their new 'stupid' policy. It was more that I wanted to re-do a lot of them for my own benefit. The ones that eBay didn't like were 'undersized' pixelwise. It was an easy fix - and definitely wont make any difference to sales. (They were potters marks or signatures). You wouldn't have to change 150 odd listings, just the photos that eBay no longer accepts.
The only thing I would suggest is that it may be worth having a look at all your listings to make sure that your photos are still on all of them, and that some haven't been converted to HTML. As this happened to mine, chances are that some of yours (and others) may be affected also.
But there is still no explanation as to how this happened - and not much point contacting eBay, as I don't think this one would be in their Generic Responses Handbook.

Thanks Kazam, I have around 150 listings which ebay says dont comply with the photo policy. So I would need to retake the photos for all of these listings wouldnt I ? They are mainly older listings, with photos taken by an older mobile phone. I no longer use this system, having purchased a small "skype type" camera that plugs direct into the laptop. The photos taken with this newer system are fine.

Do you store your photos on your computer?
I have mine all saved in folders in 'My Pictures', and use M.O. Picture Manager to edit them. All I did was to go to Edit Photos, Resize, then click on to the 'Predefined width and height', selected the 'large' document (1024x768). This fixed the photos that didn't comply. Obviously I had to remove the 'non-complying' photo and re-load the new one. Because as we all know 'Buyers love big pictures' (tongue firmly in cheek!!!)
Other that what I have put above, I can't help you on this one. You may just have to wait till you sell off your 150 non-complying listings. And I suppose it also depends on whether eBay gets antsy and won't allow non-complying photos in the future.

All my photos are stored both on my computer and on line so If I did have to change them it would be relatively easy but as it is only about 7 weeks until I shut up shop I am not going to do anything. I may, during my down time, decide to edit the non compliant pics but I am a grand master of the round toit soc.

I think I saw on these boards this happens if you are using Internet Explorer - if you sign in using firefox e.g. the html stuff will be in english again - (or it might be the other way round )
