Buyer purchased from me as 'Buy It Now' - they live locally and it was listed as Pick up Only, so I sent a message to organise pick up....he replies "Sorry mate I don't want it" - I know sometimes people make mistakes, etc and I have in the past cancelled an order for them, but I feel a bit annoyed with this one. Should I just wait and do a Payment not Received? Would I then risk them organising pick up and then leaving bad feedback?

I purchased an item a few days ago and paid immediately.
A couple of days later I got a message from seller to say they were out of stock.
The seller gave me the choice of either waiting 1+ month for the item or getting a refund. I chose the refund given my options
I received a cancellation email but I did not have to agree to it, possibly because it has already been refunded.
If I had the option I probably wouldn't have agreed because instead of putting they were out of stock, they put the reason as buyer requested cancellation. I was a bit peeved with that! Is that their workaround so they don't defects for not having stock?

Yes...
If the seller cancels and gives "out of stock" reason they will be awarded a defect from ebay.
If they give the reason as "buyer requested" then there is no defect.
So it will be better for the seller to ask if you want to cancel and if you say yes then that gives them the green light to choose buyer requested the cancellation and hence avoid any defect.

This guy just put me off a bit as he didn't even attempt to give me an explanation just the message "Sorry mate don't want it".
I have a lot more respect for a buyer who is up front and just admits they shouldn't have bought it than one who trots out the usual lame excuses.

That's true.....also people who don't even acknowledge you at all

Well if they fail to acknowledge at all then my default position is the unpaid item dispute (assuming they have not paid yet).
In fact we rarley use the cancellation process as it passes too much control over to the buyer for my liking.

"Unpaid Item Dispute". As you say that the same "buyer" has done this before, block them to remove temptation from their path, and save yourself further hassle...
