Buyer claiming counterfeit product

Hi,

I’ve sold an authentic Gucci bag a couple of months ago.

The buyer unknowingly forego authentication guarantee by shipping it to PO Box. I have only found out after shipping the item as I’m unfamiliar with eBay authentication guarantee.

The buyer left me a positive feedback last month.

60+ days have past since then and the buyer has raised a return request claiming eBay has authenticated the bag as fake.

I’m in the process of requesting more documents and proof from the buyer, and I’ll contact eBay to verify whether eBay actually did the authentication.

normally I’d accept the returns, but  I’m a scared of being scammed as a seller whereby the buyer claimed item not as described, then sends back the fake item.

how do I protect myself against this?

does anyone know if eBay’s 30 days return window mean anything for this kind of claim?

what happened if I find out the buyer sent a fake bag?

eBay's MBG time limit of 30 days starts after the final ETA of the item. As far as I know their is no change to that for authentication disputes.

Have they opened a Paypal dispute instead ?

Also as far as I know all high-end handbags have to go to eBay's authentication depots, regardless of where the item is sent to.

Hi  Padi,  apparently not if being shipped OS, or to a PO  box, parcel locker

Items delivered to a delivery address outside Australia, a PO Box or Parcel Locker are not eligible for the Authenticity Guarantee service at this time.

I've had buyers try and get their money back after more than 30 days had passed. One buyer was even able to open a case after 5 months.

Anyway, I would stop communicating with the buyer. They're looking to scam you and won't assist you.

I looked at the T&C's of the authentication programme and handbags are indeed ineligible if a PO Box is used.

Get onto Ebay chat during business hours and tell them that it has been 60 days since purchase, (and definitely more than 30 days since delivery), and the buyer is ineligible to open a dispute after so much time. Ebay needs to follow their own policies!

Just confirm if they've opened an Ebay dispute, or a Paypal dispute.

Thanks all.

The buyer doesn’t use PayPal, they opened eBay dispute.

Yeah I wouldn’t know if the bag they resell is even the same bag. I’ve called eBay to see if I can get more info about their transaction, but naturally I’m not privy to the info.

eBay also stated the same, it’s over 30 days so no longer covered by eBay protection service.

If I’m unsure what I bought is authentic I would authenticate it within the 30 days.

i don’t know why the buyer was able to raise dispute way after the transaction, must be a bug in eBay.

Get onto chat again and just be very clear that you want the dispute closed in your favour as the buyer is well out of time. They can easily do it while you're on the chat - I've had them close disputes immediately in the past.

Has anyone ever gone through payment dispute before?

I’ve contacted eBay about payment dispute seller protection’s eligibility and when it applies, this is what they said:

when the seller protection comes in to place, it does not matter whether you accepted the return request or not, because the policy will decide whether you will get a refund of the dispute amount and fees(in case you lose the dispute) on the basis of how you respond to the dispute and what details you provide. It will solely depend on that

how would you interpret this?

So it's a payment dispute (bank chargeback) & not a return request as per your OP?
