Buyer claiming item not received

First-time seller. I recently sold a small item (a trading card, ~$15). The buyer paid and I mailed the item to them, the funds were cleared and transferred to me, but they're now claiming it wasn't received.

I didn't think to get a tracking number since the sale was small (and the cost of tracking would have been half the cost of the sale!), but now the buyer is claiming the item was not received and requesting a refund.

Is there anything I can do?

Buyer claiming item not received

Yeah, I was worried that would be the case. At least it's only $15.

I guess the best I can do is assume good faith and ask the buyer to retract the cancel request for now and hope it arrives? The delivery has taken a while if it hasn't arrived yet, but not so absurdly long that you'd think it isn't coming.

The trouble is, a buyer can't cancel a request 'for now'.

As Dave said, once it is closed, it is closed forever. That would leave the buyer with no way to make an ebay claim if the card never arrived.

So it would be unfair to ask it of any buyer.

Of course, the card may have arrived. Some buyers know very well a seller can't win a claim if the item is untracked. Yes, you're lucky it is only $15. In future it may be worth having tracking and just adding the expense on to the item price. Safer that way.
