I had a buyer purchase an item off me over the weekend and paid for it the next day.
Most of his address is australian (eg has listed an address in canberra) but has Afghanistan listed as the country (obviously by mistake)
Problem is he paid for the item and as it was classed as international, has paid for international postage rather than free postage within australia.
He is a new seller with 0 feedback. I have tried to contact him but to no avail. He hasnt replied to my messages.
I really am at a loss what to do here.
Do i just post the item to the buyer? im also wary of posting it as he has listed afghanistan as the country, and im dicey about refunding the postage as i dont want to be slugged with a defect.
Has anyone got any advice?
Cheers

If you only have region 4 dvds e.g. - is it worth advertising worldwide postage?
I would amend your postage to limit the countries you post to - one of which would not be Afghanistan - it is quite easy to amend your listings by bulk edit.
not just region 4's.. mostly but not all..
i have had people from OS who buy region 4s who do have compatible players. In saying that, this is something i will consider. This is the first time however i have had a problem and its only because the buyer has chosen the wrong country by mistake (i assume)

it might be best to cancel the sale and reissue the invoice so that the new Paypal payment advice contains his correct address.Slightly off topic - I did this twice and now my proposed August dashboard shows 2 defects.
exactly this is why i am wary of cancelling it. Remember the buyer has already paid and also paid for international postage when he is obviously in Australia.
I dont want to be slugged a defect for something that isnt my fault

Just to be clear here - he paid by paypal? And on the paypal receipt there is an address like
john smith
1 dalton street
canberra act 2600
Afghanistan
and if he bought a CD he paid $6 postage - whereas local postage is free?
pretty close.. although it was a DVD but yeah pretty much
in that case I would just send the item to:
john smith
1 dalton street
canberra act 2600
As said above ^^ you won't have paypal protection anyway, as I presume you send as letters.
Or, you could send it registered letter, for $3.95 extra - and that way you do have paypal protection as you can prove postage.
Perhaps with a note in it about the extra money postage paid and asking the seller to contact you to arrange credit or refund.

thats actually not a bad idea... i mean he has paid extra for the international postage already so it wouldnt hurt
although then i have sent the item to a different address than that listed in paypal and that would kill my seller protection wouldnt it?

I don't think so - let's assume he does live in Canberra - he will get the item - so no worries
If he does in fact not live there - he has given a false address, so no paypal goodies for him. The parcel will eventually come back to you.
Be very careful not to put Afghanistan on your label tho!!!

And I know this is so old fashioned - have you looked him up in the White Pages directory online, and see if he is listed at the address he has given you?
