How can I contest the legitimacy of a buyer refund request especially if it seems to be a blatant money grab?

Buyer refund request

What about a few more details....without the full facts it is very hard to give any meaningful advice.

What was the item, when was it bought and what is the buyer claiming is wrong with it?  And why do yu think it is a money grabbing exercise?

Buyer refund request

As lyndal mentioned, the more detail provided, the more appropriate the advice given will tend to be.

As a general rule and without any additional info, though? When it comes to eBay requests, you really need to be able to point to something that is absolutely irrefutable as evidence that the buyer's request is spurious, and contact eBay by phone to discuss it (don't rely on the request system itself) - the best bet is usuallly something they said in an eBay message that contradicts something they're claiming in the request, or other clear discrepancies in their claims / evidence.

Advise the buyer, to use the official ebay return process.  If as you believe, it is simply an attempt to get a freebie, then they will have to

provide a valid reason for the return.  If there is nothing wrong with the item or the description you provided in the listing, then they will not get their money back until you get the item back.  The buyer may even be liable for the total postage costs if it is simply a change of mind, provided of course you dont accept change of mind returns.
