Hi Everyone
I have a buyer who wishes to cancel their order as they have changed their mind. I have looked at the options and see "The Buyer Has Asked To Cancel The Order" if I select this will I receive a defect?
Thanks

You won't receive a defect or be charged any fees if agreed to by buyer.

Just DO NOT choose the out of stock option. This definitely carries the defect.
You also need to make your buyer aware that they will get a message from ebay asking them if/not they agree with the cancellation.
If they choose agree the transaction will be closed and you will get back your FVF.
If they do nothing then you will have to wait 10-days for the cancellation to time out. However, you will still get back your fees in this case just as they had clicked agree.
If, for some strange reason, they decide to say NO then you will lose your fees. You would then need to call ebay and take them thru the messages between you and the buyer and hopefully they would reverse the fees for you based on the messages.

I did a seller initiated cancellation a week or so ago (repeat buyer went AWOL and I'd left it too long to open an UPI). I was able to close it after 8 days which surprised me as I always thought it was 10. Maybe it depends on what type of cancellation and whether the buyer has paid or not (I used the unable to make contact option).

meg, has the buyer actually paid yet ? I ask this because there is the option on the drop-down menu to "return item" even if the item hasn't been paid for.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer for that situation meg, I seem to remember it coming up before on the boards and I think the answer was to phone ebay and ask them to look at the buyer's emails to you, but NOT to let them escalate the case.
It beggars belief that (presuming the item hasn't been sent/received by the buyer) that they can open one of these requests.
Please wait for someone else to reply before you do anything though.
Sorry I couldn't help more. I would advise that you put them on your BBL however.

Meg, it sounds as if the older purchase has already been posted and received, is that correct?
If so, you will have to go through the item return process with that sale.

The seller rating system has changed and the defect system is now defunct for many things that used to be a problem.
These days you can only get a defect for:
- cancelling because you are out of stock
-case closed without seller resolution (ie the buyer escalates and you lose)
As well there is a seperate system rating delivery times which doesn't apply here.
Now I don't exactly understand what has happened with the first item bought, but I'm guessing you have either sent the item and they want to return, or you haven't sent the item but you have held onto it long enough so that it is past latest estimated delivery date, so the buyer was able to open a return case.
SO.... if you still have the item, you can choose to refund the buyer now through the return case - there should be an option there. There won't be any repercussions and you will get your fees back. There is no longer a defect for this (if there was you would already have it anyway under the old system anyway).
If you have sent it and want them to keep it, then just refund the same way. Otherwise just follow the procedure to facilitate getting the item back before refunding.
