Hi guys
Have just 'sold' an item to someone with a foreign address (despite it saying in item listing NO OVERSEAS SHIPPING).
I have not heard from the winner as to whether they have an Australian address. Winner has low/sporadic feedback/buying history so it does not give me a lot of confidence so wondering how I should handle this?

For now I have messaged them back:
"Please be sure the AUSTRALIAN shipping address shows clearly on the ebay checkout and paypal payment informations because that is where I will take the shipping information from."
All I can do is wait and see if payment comes through this week.
As I hadn't received an Australian shipping address yet I went to send the winner an invoice last night to get things moving. Then realised that won't work as it shows their (middle east) address and only postage options for international shipping. Talking to ebay they said I would need to get their paypal email address and Aussie shipping address and send them a manual invoice through paypal.
In the meantime the winner has asked me for the steps to make a bank transfer (bank deposit is an option in my listings but is rarely used or requested. Any advice from anyone who has been in this situation before (or knows the best/safest way forward)?

The problem that concerns me at the moment is that ANY cancelled sale will result in a `defect`
Sorry to get off your point

Do you have countries that you don't post to etc ticked in your settings?
eBay doesn't care if you write Australia only in the listing if you haven't done that in your site preferences.

I normally do and certainly will in future. I did have the listing set up as shipping to Australia only. Was told that unless I have certain location blocks in place people can still log on via ebay Aust and bid on my items.
Still waiting for address details and payment etc. I can wait a couple more days. If it doesn't work out I will just relist down the track. Won't worry about the underbidder because seems they have a foreign location too...
Will have appropriate blocks in place next time round.

I've seen a couple of times this year in Bidder Activity that 2 people tried to put bids on from Countries i don't post to,were blocked from bidding amongst all the others that had too many item strikes.I'd never seen that come up before,so you will know if someone tries.
Hope it works well without too many dramas for you.

I may be experiencing a 'dumb moment' here but they sent me a paypal payment overnight which included an Aust postal address. Am not sure how this worked as I hadn't even sent them a manual invoice? How would they be able to go through the checkout process and change address and add in the correct shipping fee etc? Even I wasn't able to change those details my end. Winner had not even 'requested total' etc....

When they went through checkout and updated their address to an Australian one the system would have updated the order and restored the listings domestic post option.

Thanks Cats, glad it was something as simple as that. I ended up asking ebay about the process as well and I am surprised they did not even mention the buyer could go through the normal check out process and that putting in/updating address would restore the domestic postage option! Here I was believing that I would have to issue an invoice manually but could only do once I obtained a paypal email and Aussie shipping address (and expected/encouraged me to call the buyer for this information.....)

IMO its a good block to have in place.
It puts the onus on the buyer to provide an Australian address if they wish to make payment via Paypal, and the seller a level of control over adding a considered international post charge if they do decide they will post overseas.
Its a shame though that the blocking of international buyers does not occur automatically if you do not offer international post options.
