And AP will tell my that this will cost 1.20 etc, or I can say a 500g satchel and it will calculate it for me.
I can see I can chose a parcel size, but I must enter the cost.

There is no option for when sending items with the letter rate so you will have to add those yourself.
Eg: the item for the large letter rate has to be a Maximum of 260 wide x 360 mm long and up to 20 mm thick.
The options then are for items that weigh up to 125grams is $2,up to 250 grams is $3,up to 500 grams is $5
For parcels you can use the calculated rate that checks the buyers postcode and calculated the postage
to that destinations,(which means you have to put in the paremeters).
The easy way is to go to a Post Office and ask for a postage guide booklet,(that way you can see how it can
work and you have better control over the true costs).
I used to use the calculated but found that using the guide is a safer way fo controlling the postage costs,(I
now use the simple letter rates for suitable items and eBay postage for the bulky items,(eg: 500gram and
3 kg satchels and the B1,(1kg total),B2,(3kg total and B4,(5kg total) boxes.
