Soooo annoying.
I got a 0 feedback person buy an item and not pay right away.
I wait a day, then send an invoice.
They email me and say they clicked "buy" accidentally and dont want the item.
I say no worries, I can cancel the purchase.
I open "cancel transaction" thingy.
buyer receives that email then pays for the item.
Wat?
Her English was broken in email, and Im fairly sure she has no idea what shes doing and she might have panicked and just paid for it.
I emailed her and asked if she actually wanted the item, or still wants to cancel as Im happy to cancel and refund in full orpost it to her, but she needs to let me know.
No reply.
Does she have to confirm the cancelation, or will it just happen automatically after a few days? Im happy to refund her, but I dont really want to do that then get a neg or case opened saying no item received. If I just go ahead and refund her, will Ebay see that it has happened and finalize the cancelation?

I've had 2 buyer now do the same thing. They get sent a message saying did you receive a refund even when they haven't paid, so they don't know how to answer it I'm sure. Both mine paid then I refunded but the cases still did not close for 10 days.
I will not do cancelations anymore. I explain to the customer I will file a non payment dispute to get my fees back, tell them to ignore it and any further automated requests for payment and the case will close in four days. I go in and close it in 4 days.

yes, Im thinking the "did you receive a refund" email is why she might have paid too. Shes probably thoroughly confused now.
Ill just give it a day to see if she replies and refund her anyway.

Ill do that in future, I was just trying to save her a strike and me a neg.
Ebay is always on the buyers side, and so worried about sellers giving buyers a bad impression, and punishing us for it... yet they cant get their own **bleep** together. How hard could it be lol

So far, I have found the trick is to let the buyer know what the message might say, and what the benefit (to them) is once they confirm the cancellation.
So, in the message I send (which is before I send the request, because I won't send one unless I get the buyer's agreement beforehand), I generally say something along the lines of "ebay recently updated this process and it it doesn't always assess the transaction status correctly, so the message may either ask you to confirm that you've received a refund, or simply confirm that you haven't paid. Whichever option you're provided, however, once you confirm, the transaction will be officially cancelled and will no longer show as awaiting payment."
So far, so good.

if you cancel you can still receive a neg. If you go through the non payer process they can't leave you a neg.Or if they do ebay are inclined to remove it.
