At least buyers will be now be complaining to eBay, and eBay listens to buyers - or so they say.......

Oh, they'll listen to the complaints, but won't pay any attention to the cause and presume everything is the fault of 'defective' sellers. 😉
ETA I'd love to be proven wrong, or at least a little over-cynical, though. 😄

Lol, my comment was in jest ..
In any case I am cynical, and I reckon they will use the complaints to add further idiotic seller requirements or ridiculous policies regarding combining post

The difference in fees could be the difference in staying viable but they just want you to suck it up,(they don't
care as they will have the extra dough).
So instead of taking the FVF's when the transactions are complete they will take the FVF's earlier so that they
may make some extra dough,(so in other words taking money they are not entitled too).
Final Value Fees should be taking when the payment is final,(if it's taking earlier then they should word it
differently),
I for one am working off the assumption that my fvf will be based in accordance with eBays fee policy published on the site.
Final value fees
These fees apply whenever an item sells and are calculated as a percentage of the total amount paid by the buyer (item price + postage)
There are no ifs or buts in the policy - it is quite clear. I will continue to expect a refund for any excess FVF that are charged for a transaction as per my contract with eBay and their own fee schedule.

it is clear isn't it.
Fees are charged on the amount the buyer paid.
When they complete checkout and process payment through PayPal or make a bank deposit etc - that means, they paid.
What happens next is outside of that transaction.

Really CM, I would not have thought that.

I know, I just have a bee in my bonnet at the moment with eBay seeming to be under the impression that correlation = causation (you can see it in their FAQs on the US site, where they explain the buyer behaviours that often lead to them not coming back to the site, and how it's all down to what sellers do or don't do). That and the fact that some of the ways the system is set up means that the data they can collect on such behaviour would have to be, near as I can tell, inconclusive (for example, on an independent site, cart abandonment can be assessed with a limited scope of conclusions - on eBay, that's not really the case due to it functioning [or not] in so many different ways, as well as the fact that there are generally alternative methods for buying and checking out the same items).

well, now you can, eh?
