It's about 18 cm long, both ends screw off and has three round plastic circles on it.

Hi, just a guess, but could it be a Bodhrun tipper?

Used by irish "Bodhrun" (drum) players,

and they come in many many shapes,

but all similar in style.

Don't know about th rings though,

thay might add to the sound created.

Really just a guess though.

If you say the curtain man has been in the house, why not ring and ask him? Or show it to someone at a different curtain place and ask do they know what it is, if you're worried about him claiming it's his when it isn't.

Good suggestion.

I'm thinking, a tool for threading something through something.

Perhaps load it up with rings having both ends on then when necessary take off one end and feed it through then take the other end off and feed it all the way through leaving the rings behind.

It could even require a wire or string up through the middle at the same time.
