Hi everyone,
I spend most of my waking time on ebay, so I am trying to turn it to making some money by selling things. I am very new with selling. I am planning to sell a lot, like 100 cheap ($10-40) and 5 expensive ($300) items per week. I am thinking about opening an ebay store. I wonder if it is better with a store, in terms of saving money. Secondly, does having a store create more trust?
I appreciate your opinions.

buyer made a credit card charge back as a not authorised transaction, although the seller sent the item with a tracking number,
A seller needs to have the right sort of tracing that qualifies for seller protection so registered post, ordinary express parcel (not satchels), click & send (with sig required for an expensive item) 5kg satchel (only suitable for up to $50) or platinum express all lodged over the counter and stamped and receipted by the PO.

You will find most buyers will purchase things through searches.
I found that having a store works much better if you have lots of stock and its easier to type in your stock levels etc
Often had customers buy 20+ of the same item with a store.

One a bump: I buy things in bulk and the invoice shows a list of some 10's or 100's items. I don't think the invoices can be used as a proof that the items I sell on ebay are from the warehouse, as I can always mix a few look-alike fake items in, can't I?
I only hope that if any buyers doubt about the authenticity, they will take the items to the right place to verify the authenticity before they make a claim. If they do so, the items will be confirmed as authentic any way because I only sell authentic items. I know with some items of small values people couldn't be bothered to verify authenticity, but I am not taking advantage of this. I know how it feels like as I am myself a victim of sellers who sell fake stuff so many times.
I am not an authorised seller for any brand. I will check out the legislations on this.
Talking about ebay thieves, it looks scary to me. The other day I read about a guy's story on here, that his buyer made a credit card charge back as a not authorised transaction, although the seller sent the item with a tracking number, also received a positive FB. I am not prepared for this, as I paid a lot for some expensive items (like Belstaff items, I got ~70 pieces to list soon). Is there any way to protect sellers in this case?
I'm sorry but I didn't mean you had to justify yourself to me, I was just thinking of problems I have read about here and some sellers having restrictions placed on their listings by eBay due to selling large numbers of designer items.

Once a bump: No I didn't justify myself. Maybe my English writing is not very good to express it more clearly. I'd like to come up with some possible scenarios a seller could face.
I only entered this discussion forum since I intended to become a seller, to learn a thing or two. The other day I read the story of another guy, that his buyer only returned half of the set he sold, and claimed as INAD. Someone commented that the buyer can even put a brick in a box and return, and seller cannot do much about it. It sounds scary to me really, if this happens a lot.

As a buyer I rely on feedback and DSRs of sellers. A store doesn't mean anything in the way of trust unless the end result is the bigger the store and high sales etc results in more carelessnes with orders. A store or power seller may sell so much stuff that they have a 99.8% rating but when you look into it there could be 60 negs and an equal number of neutrals. It's less than 1% of feedback but to me 120 unhappy customers is too high.
I also have a couple of pet hates with stores;
They may have a fancy store page with nice pics and clear graphics etc....but then proceed to lump the 1499 gazillion items they have for sale under a single category. Grrrrrrr.
Also....too much space at the top of the store page taken up with large graphics, 'About Me' stuff and goodness knows what other waffle the seller seems compelled to include means having to suffer scanning past it on every new page to get to the products you are interested in.
So....if you plan to sell 1499 gazillion items under one folder with lots of junk at the top of the store page I may check out your store but I will probably only be looking at the first 50 items. 😄

Hi Phorum and Revolver. Thank you for the information
zanadoo: I'll take your advice. Nothing more annoying than having to look for an item among thousands of items in a shop.
By the way, does anyone know how to change the nick name of your existing ID? I'd like to use my brother's which has a lot more feedback, but don't want to use his current ID name.

You know what - I'd jump in the deep end - go for gold - and give it all you got - I did - you learn along the way

Ok, lets get one thing straight: These are the forums! People come here either when they have a problem or when they love being around problems!
If you want to start selling and make a success of it, RULE No 1: Stop reading these boards! You'll only be disheartened by a small (very small) percentage of ebayers! Can't you see we're ALL loonies? Why do you think I come here? I'm a sucker for a good debate/fight with the cats that want to eat poor little fishy!!!
RULE No 2: Just do it!

Does having a store create more trust?
You came here asking if having a store creates more trust, well my answer to that is "no".
Why would it and how would it?
When it comes to trust It is all about feedback and DSRs and not about how you choose to list your items or what fees and how you pay them.
Just because a person has a store does not offer any guarantees about the seller's products or how they deal with buyers
If a store could somehow magically improve the buyers' trust of sellers then everyone would sell through a store.

You can not just use the ID that is registered to someone else, and the feedback is not transferable.
