EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

Just received eBay's latest assistance to sellers *Ebay's NEW HEALTH CHECK* .

This may be old news but they are moving timed BUY IT NOW and will move all my listings to GOOD TIL CANCELLED. Well that is not what I want but then again we have no say.

This does not suit me for many reasons with something new I like to use 10 days as an option. The rest are 30 day listings which gives me the option to adjust the listings if they are not attracting buyers or watches. I will sometimes group them with other items etc.

I find the 30 day listings far more manageable for my business needs.

So if all fixed listings are good til cancelled I dare say the next step will be for those with ebay stores will be reduced with the amount of fixed listings in their subscription.

Good til cancelled also means there will be a hell of a lot of old stock on there for years or if I remember correctly they were bringing in limited time for listings.

I have had my vent but OH SO FRUSTRATING makes me wonder why I am doing this.

Basic stores definitely never got 7200 listings a year in Australia either, so telling an Aussie seller they don't know what they're talking about and then giving out Canadian/US information that's not relevant here will only mislead. But hey, lots of others post misleading info so the Canadians may as well do it too.

It's still much, much quicker to do them one at a time within the bulk editing tool than to relist individually.

I do use the bulk editing tool, but i have several accounts with about 4,500 items to edit one by one on the editing tool.

Until a fornight ago, a basic store could theoretically have 5400 listings, so that's close. IF (ha ha) all the CS reps are right and GTC rollovers are fee free, a basic store could run 7200 listings. Ending them every 360 days to avoid 'stale' fees.

As has been said, by me even, we won't know until 22 March.

At which time we will know which of CS and management knows what they're talking about.

Sorry to pop your bubble Dave but the CS reps, as per usual, were just making stuff up as they went along.

Brian Burke (eBay Mgr) cleared it up on a US live chat:

"GTC's will rollover every 30 days and incur either a listing fee or consumption of a free relist".

He went on to say that to avoid listing fees we should stay within our allotment (or just suck it up and cough up).

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

Ebay has taken fees last month when the items should have relisted for free. Then this month March luckily I looked as my 40 free listings disappeared , then I noticed the items relisting automatically were accruing a charge of $1.65 each. Tackled this problem with them on chat, as I thought it was wrong that they relisted the items , then charged fees. Apparently I was meant to end them all before they finished. Missed that notice somehow. Now I have way more fees than the items I will sell this and last month, so am already running at a loss.

Not my bubble, Dazz, except that I have written confirmation from eBay CSs, as company representatives.

Also I have the email from eBay Australia stating that the initial rollover to GTC would be free of charge. Which it hasn't been. I suspect the first relist may well be free, to compensate for the initial stuffup, but after that we'll pay through the nose if we don't manage our listings.

Definitely a cash grab Dave.

Everyone was sucked in by the 40 free + free relists only to have the rug whipped out.

The only recourse now is to end before rollover occurs.

Anyone who has been dinged for fees should definitely apply for a credit or refund and take the matter to fair trading or ACCC if eBay do not live up to their responsibilities.

No company can get away with offering a free service then start charging for it without notice and before expiry of the offer.

I felt sure eBay would introduce a beginner store like they did in the US but that failed to materialize; they just went for the jugular instead.

I don't believe for a second that this overcharging was a simple programming error.

Even the most simpleminded business analyst would have spotted the issue here early on so someone in authority has simply chosen to ignore the issue.

It probably served to give the monthly numbers a boost.

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

I made a comment earlier on in this thread that possibly changing to GTC was a way of getting rid of the small sellers.

I don't know whether it's just my feast time (instead of the usual famine), but I've had more sales (on auctions) in the last two weeks than I've had for absolute ages.

Has this change to GTC boosted the visibility of Auction listings??

I've had two sales at the end of auction at lowest possible price, so although sold - slightly lower than I would have liked. otherwise very dead.  guess it depends what you sell..
