Woman Frustrated I am wanting to list a book for sale. When it comes to the postage selection section, I select the Ebay Aust Post 3kg option - BUT a message comes up saying that I cannot charge more than $8.30. BUT - I have sent this item numerous times previously and it costs me $13.05 plus extra $2.70 for signature, making total of $15.75. Why am I only allowed to charge $8.30? So does this mean that Ebay expects us to pay for postage out of our own pocket?

Also don't forget to account for the FVF that ebay charge on your postage too.

Might I ask why you pay extra for SOD in Australia?

IMHO it actaully achieves nothing. But costs you extra to buy it. Unless its person-person (which costs even more) then anyone over 18 at the delivery address can sign for it. So a buyer can still say I did not sign for it.

The reason I say this is that under Australian Consumer Law (look in the Sale Of Goods Act in your state) it actually states that  delivery to the buyer is deemed to have occurred when the seller can prove lodgement with a carrier.

So for you to have full seller protection against Item Not Received (INR) cases then all you need to have is:

a). you mailed to the exact address given by paypal at the time of checkout

b). you have a lodgement receipt from your chosen carrier (eg Aust Post)

c). the item has a tracking number that can be connected to the buyer's address (or at least their postcode)

SOD is only a requirement in USA where actual proof of physical delivery is required under their laws. Not so here.

There used to be a postage cap applied to listings in the book category, which was $8.30, but I'm sure eBay did away with it a couple of years ago... o_O

It applied only to the flat rate option, so to use a more expensive service and charge the higher amount, you needed to switch to calculated postage and select the right satchel service from the dropdown menu - the correct price should then be charged, and you can add in an amount separately under handling as well, if you have any additional costs.

Apart from anything else a 3kg eBay satchel is 35c max and postage is $11.70. As said, SOD is a waste of money.
