Ebay closed all my listings for not being on managed payments. So I go to register for it but they want driver's licence or passport. They clearly told me they will not require these, only my bank account but now they want it.
I certainly don't trust them with my personal documents, bank account/card is well sufficient as an ID anywhere. Currently I'm considering cancelling my store because why pay them $25 a months if I can't sell anything.
I don't like coercion and giving out my personal details to complete strangers. What's your take on this? And don't say "if you want to sell you have to do it". It's not about that.

All major sites have certain ID checks in place.
It's called "Know Your Customer".
For legislation and anti-money laundering purposes, all these sites require you to prove who you are and that means handing over an identifying document with a picture.
I'm signed up to Amazon which required a lot more than just my passport/drivers licence to get going - I had to submit a utility bill in my name and several other docs, including a redacted bank statement.
I'm also signed up with Etsy, which also required photographic ID etc.
If you think this is bad - try signing up to a Crypto site like Binance which also uses facial recognition as part of their "Know Your Customer" identification processes.

It's not coercion. It's choice. You want to use the platform to sell you follow the platform's rules and enrolment procedures.
I've been on MP for over 12 months. You've left it to the last minute so it's on you. Sign up to MP or don't.

This thread has nothing to do with ripping people off, it is in relation to having to provide identification, which some people don't want to do. My question is what are they trying to hide.

How do you work that out?
Why would you make a comment like that without backing it up with proof?

Also likely to purchase tinfoil in wholesale lots?

I have a warehouse full of foil. More than willing to share with those who may need it. I'll list it on ebay for an over inflated price. No wait, I'll give it away.........

We'll I've signed up now. They told me bank statement is only necessary if they can't identify me. So far no problems. What struck was the signup page wanted password to my bank. Hehehe no way I'd do that but I clicked further and than it said I can just input my account number manually. Why they don't tell people about this. Heaps of people probably gave away their password to complete strangers somewhere on the Net
