I don't get why peole are complaining abut Ebay fees i know they are a pain and keep going up and all the new rules but it's way cheaper than running an actual shop you only handle the stock so there is no theft , no electricity or air con to run or employ staff ,eftpos fees ,rent each week . The way we sell it's convienient and most do it from home.

If you don't mind my asking, what's the difference? (And I ask because as far as I know, there isn't one - I have only ever heard or seen "I don't get" used as a slightly more idiomatic version of "I don't understand", and it's even documented in the dictionary as meaning the same thing, so as a self-confessed word-nerd, I'm curious to know what "I don't get" means when you use it).

I don't get it can take on two meanings such as
senario one
people hear a joke everyone laughs ...10 seconds later they wondering and say ' I don't get it "
senario two
wife : I think we should go out to dinner more often.
huband : I don't get it. You know money is tight, even with me working two jobs. Plus, we already go out to eat almost every Sunday.
In this context, the husband understands what the wife wants, but he doesn't think the request is reasonable, given their financial situation.
but I'm sure milions of others use it in this way

I've been selling for about 6 years. I purchase items to sell, and sell them at very reasonable price .... meaning I make a small profit and the buyer gets a bargain. Well, that's the way I'd like it to be.
If I purchase an item, pay $1.50 insertion fee and final value fee, offer free postage .... there isn't any profit AND, once upon a time ๐ there were more buyers, and it was fun to watch the final bidding.
Now (and I might add, I haven't changed the stock I sell or downgraded in anyway, I am lucky to had one bid on my items. I keep in touch with a couple of other sellers who are having the same problem.
So, what I'm saying, things have changed quite a lot over the past year or so .... and I'm still plodding along, hoping for better things in the future.
I am not a whinger, but I think the reason so many sellers are leaving eBay is the same. We are all in it together, and the better deal that eBay give the seller, the better deal we can give the buyer.
I think I'll go and have a whine .... Oops, I mean a wine ๐

Thanks, but in those examples, it's still being used in place of "I don't understand", it's just signalling different things that the person doesn't understand.
In scenario one, the person is saying they don't get the joke, which typically means they don't understand something about the joke, either a reference to something they may not have heard / seen, or in some cases they understand the punchline of a joke, but not why it's supposed to be funny.
In scenario two, the husband has indicated both he and his wife understand their financial situation, and in light of that, he doesn't understand why his wife is suggesting they spend more money on going out.
The two phrases are interchangable in both situations. (eg Husband: I don't understand - you know money is tight.... etc, doesn't change the meaning of the sentence at all).
And I'm saying all this to illustrate why all the respondants to your thread have been talking about your OP as though you wrote "I don't understand" - because despite which phrase is used, the sentence means exactly the same thing.
