There is a scam that I have been burnt with and ebay is a part of.
We sold am item to the US from Australia, the purchaser paid surface shipping, (8 weeks), Australia Post doesn't offer tracking at this cost, buyer tells ebay hasn't been recieved, ebay givens them their money back and back charges you. I have proof of postage, reciept & photo of item after stamps etc affixed, but ebay didn't give a rats.
eaby customer service runs from scripts and when you say something not on the script, or prove them wrong, they ignore you.
SO BE AWARE DO NOT SHIP ANYTHIG WITHOUT TRACKING NUMBER, EVEN IF YOU LOSS THE SALE
EBAY DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOUR HISTORY IS, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG

how is ebay part of the scam , ebay states must have tracking or signature , for proof otherwise buyer has the right of way. sometimes they might let you go for 1 time only, but thats there policy , no tracking or signature, own risk.

While tracking may not be available on surface shipping Insurance on surface shipping is and the receipt for that if not acceptable to eBay would have covered you for any loss via AP.
No scam here.

Paypal does not and never has offered protection for buyers or sellers on items shipped via surface mail.....the time it takes to arrive at it's destination is too long.
If you wanted seller protection you needed to use a qualifying shipping method and that is not surface mail.

But if the buyer doesnt pay for it why should the seller have to be further out of pocket?
Its a scam because there is nothing from stopping the buyer doing it repeatably is there?

But if the buyer doesnt pay for it why should the seller have to be further out of pocket? Buyers can keep getting goods for free and ebay doesnt care one toss

Where does ebay state that? Have bought & sold stuff since 2002 and never had a problem

The buyer should not be given a choice. List your items with a qualifying postage method if you want seller protection...and that is certainly not surface mail for overseas buyers.
The buyer can only choose from the postage choices given by the seller.

If you have been selling items since 2002 you must realise some items will eventually go missing so you allow for that on small sales and a small amount of the profit from each sale goes to cover loses and that is the same for any business be it online or B+M. Larger sales you cover yourself by requiring tracking which the buyer pays for.
When I sold before I offered allmy stuff for overseas purchase all with tracking I can not remember the exact price but I think postage to the US cost about $28 the way I did it and I use to get people purchasing $10 items and pay the postage of course the 10% ebay charge will be a bit of a killer had a quick look and looks like it would cost about $40/$41 with about $6 fees from ebay/paypal now so for me I reckon it will not be worth selling overseas but I may put 1 or 2 items up later on.
