I thought you could only use echeques if you had no other payment method set up
I've just had a buyer purchase 3 items from me, two of them were instant payments I have received and the third is an echeque. How can this occur?

The buyer must of had enough funds to pay for 2 items but not for the 3rd hence why that payment was by an e-cheque

PayPal sometimes automatically change a payment method to e-cheque if many items have been purchased recently, of higher value or both.
The buyer often doesn't noticed it has changed upon confirming payment so I send the buyer a message advising one of the payments was an e-cheque and usually takes 5-6 days to clear before I can post the items.
Then I let them know exactly when it clears so they don't think I am slow on posting out items.

Ugh, don't like my chances, they obviously didn't even read my description as they were entitled to a discount but have already paid.
Thanks guys. As silly as it sounds I totally forgot you can have an active paypal balance lol, I have a different paypal for buying to my selling account, and I have a debit card linked in. I never have an active balance because it messes with my budgeting so I didn't even think about it.

I have two bank accounts and a credit card linked to my papyal. One is a normal savings account and that goes through straight away. Occasionally for more expensive purchases I use my other account which is a line of credit that has the same status as a cheque account. Payments from this one go through as echeques. From my credit card is an instant payment.

Does the buyer know their payment is an echeque?
In the situation of the 3 payments, 2 being instant and one being an echeque, if postage is delayed until the echeque clears, is the seller penalised because the paid items weren't sent out within their specified handling time?

But if combined postage was applied based on all three going as one parcel, then the seller is going to be out of pocket for the second lot of postage. I think holding off on postage is more than justified as full payment has not yet been received. However if you are worried about this OP, I would email the buyer and explain, and ask if he/she would like the parcel held until the third item clears, or if he/she is willing to pay an additional postage fee on the basis that there would need to be two deliveries. Keep the emails to quote to eBay if you need to request a defect removal.
