I use File Exchange and store files in 3 places, on my computer, on my own web space that I pay for, and on Google Docs which is free. File Exchange is a bit tricky to start using. I think I took about 3 days work to get the hang of it and then a couple bits here and there as I tried new things. I did have pretty good prior spreadsheet experience though, maybe a couple extra days if you aren't already Excel proficient. But it's definitely worth figuring it out as now it takes hardly any time to prepare heaps of listings at once and then I press upload and go have lunch. I have made my own pre-filling csv files for my most common categories and all I have to do is enter the titles, quantities and price and it fills in the rest for me.

But given the original premise, the time to explore alternatives was back then, not now after TL stopped working. Which seems to be the prevalent complaint.
It's hard to explore an alternative when its not available. As dazzledayz said "Unfortunately (and I think this is what really irks people), at the same time they said they would be providing a similarly featured alternative via their much hyped seller hub."
This (Seller Hub) would be an acceptable alternative to many if it had offline storage, and the ability build and modify offline, which are the main advantages of Turbo Lister, if not its main ones. Also TL was free, other real equivalent alternatives such as Six-bit etc are not. And while "Inventory" is an alternative for low numbers of listing, it has no direct offsite storage or ability build and test off line. eBays alternative File Exchange while free has a steep learning curve, and no offsite database for easy retrieval of item files.
There are not a lot of alternatives, a week or 2 weeks notice that it would end on 21 February would have given sellers time to organise a TL alternative (even without a Seller Hub equal) but No, in typical eBay fashion you wake up and try TL and its no longer working. It shows how little regard eBay has for its sellers, at least the Australian ones.
From what I've been able to see, Wonderlister would appear to be the cheapest alternative to TL @ US$5 per month for <1K managed items.
It looks a lot like what TL should have been but never quite was.
I think you can store unlimited listings locally and it does push images to EPS (eBay Pic Service) from your local drive.
They say it is straightforward to import your existing TL data.
Probably worth a try via the free trial on offer.

Slightly O/T, but still kinda...and it amuses me.
This is eBay's last official announcement (dated April of 2018).

I feell like it's the epitome of ebay, and their regard for members in general.
Just a blank stare, and a sign-off.

I'm relatively new, and never used Turbo Lister.
Am interested how many items it would allow you to list in a week if going flat out?
I have started to use file exchange though but was wondering how many new items it was possible to list a week with Turbo Lister, assuming a 40 hour week.
And assuming the items are delivered to you, or you spend additional time on top of the 40 hours sourcing them.
Just curious what would be a realistic and an unrealistic goal?

Irrelevant as TL is no longer available.
How long is a piece of string?
It would depend on your templates, how much, if any, description you put in, how many pics, whether you have postage and business policies.....
Bottom line - as many as you could by listing directly on eBay in the first place. Which is something only you would know.

The piece of string I'm hoping for is certainly over 500 items a week.
I add 6 photos, postage & payment policies, store category, material (for clothing) colour, size, condition description, occassion, season, MPN (where applicable), combined shipping discount and all the usual business policies so I don't need enter anything in manually, plus a short description with a hyperlink in it.
Is that doable from your experience?
