If you have an item listed as a Auction sale and there is already a bid on the item, along comes a potential buyer who is offering a buy- it-now price. Am I able to change the listing to include Buy it now once there is a bid on the item? or would it mean I would have to cancel the listing and let the bidder know the reasons for cancellation. Is this against ebay rules?
Just asking as I had this happen to me recently, although I was offered a good price for my item I turned the potential buyer down and told them the item would still go to auction as I had a bid on the item already. I didn't think it would be fair on the ebay buyer who had placed a bid and potentially cancelling a listing could pose all sort of issues which I didn't want.

No nyou cannot cancel the bid and add a BIN, you would indeed have to end the listing and relist as a BIN at the agreed price.
I never do that as there is always the chance that the item will fetch a higher price at auction or worse still the person asking you to cancel is a rival seller who has just got rid of the opposition and of course will not buy your item.

Thanks PJ for the advice, that's what I thought and hence more reasons to let it go to auction.
