Express Post delivered to wrong address

Hi, I posted an item yesterday and it was delivered today, yay for great service, or so I thought...

It was sent express post and I logged on to have a look at the online tracking and it's showing up as being delivered to a suburb 100+km away from the intended address.

I haven't heard back from my buyer yet so I still hold a glimmer of hope that it's an admin error on their part and it was successfully delivered (to the right person that is). But assuming it was delivered to the wrong address as it would seem, does anyone know what sort of an effort they put in to finding it? It was a large item and it would have had to go via one of their contractors so presumably the address is on a manifest somewhere so finding where it was delivered shouldn't be a problem.

Financially it doesn't concern me, I'm confident of being able to recover the value of the item should it indeed be gone but it's a scarce item and I dare say my buyer would be very disappointed if it can't be located. I may be jumping the gun and there could be a logical explanation but if anyone has any reassuring tales about the great lengths they go to find missing items I'd love to hear them, not holding my breath though! 😛

If the tracking shows that it was delivered to the wrong suburb then there should be no problem...AP obviously knows where it is.

If you are relying on Express Post for paypal seller protection I hope it was Express Post Platinum.

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

Thanks for the reassurance, it was standard express post but Paypal isn't involved so express was agreed upon by both parties. I won't leave my buyer out of pocket regardless, I'll chase AP for the $50 compensation if need be.

since the introduction of the Click and Send system, A:P do not pay out the $50 compensation for items that are not sent via Registered Post.

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

Putney, based on relatively recent personal experience, Australia Post still may up to $50 for express post parcels that have gone MIA or damaged contents due to contractor. This is also still promoted in their web info express post terms and conditions.

Its regular post satchels that they are choosing to no longer pay out on - including click and send articles sent without signature requirement.

Where did you hear that they no longer have this compensation? I am almost certain that Australia Post still has up to $50 compensation for unregistered items, at their discretion of course. They just don't advertise or make it known like anywhere.

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

It would seem quite ridiculous if they refuse given that my parcel was well beyond the maximum dimensions of any Click and Send product available. However I'm quite prepared to lodge a claim with QCAT as I've had to do in the past, hopefully the item will be found though and it won't get to that point 🙂

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

Australia Post advised me (central office, including "escalation" team representatives)  many, many times, after several phone calls when I had some lost parcels earlier this year.

I think Alice from Australia Post ebay store also affirmed this on the discussion boards earlier this year too.

Yes, they still have discretion, but they have decided not to use this discretion for regular parcels anymore.

My parcels were all lodged and scanned at post office - and had do not safe drop and please scan delivery confirmation stickers 😞

I now add signature requirement for extra dollar via Click and Send on any parcel that I would not be happy to wear the loss if it went missing. The extra cover provides up to $100 compensation if not delivered.

I am moving to e-parcel shortly and this offers some savings and every parcel has tracking and signature requirement.

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

If an item of significant value is lost and AP disclaim any liability and refuse to compensate you it's not necessarily the end of the story.

Many years ago when I was a poor uni student (still poor, no longer a student!) my family sent me a Coles/Myer gift card so I could stock up the fridge. Was well over the $50 limit and needless to say, it never arrived. AP admitted it was likely stolen by a rogue staff member but refused to compensate, I lodged a claim with QCAT (or the SCT as it was known back then) and within about 30 minutes the matter was found in my favour.

So if AP tell you tough luck, don't despair.

Re: Express Post delivered to wrong address

I've had several EP parcels just left on my front porch over the years; neither the name or the address bore any resemblance to me:O  I did forward them on and hopefully they ended up in the right hands:-)
