Dear EBayers,
Is there a way to prevent people from simply bidding and winning an item and then not even replying or trying to contact you in relation to collecting the item. It means I've paid the eBay fees, holding the item and it's left unpaid and a week of wasted work with no consequence for the person buying the item and not paying. It feels as though eBay is not all that helpful with solving cases.

If the buyer doesn't pay and doesn't respond to invoices or messages, start a Dispute listing them as a Non-Paying Buyer. Once the dispute is resolved in your favour, your fees are refunded.

Yes.
You open unpaid item cases for any such scenario.
4 days after sale date, open an unpaid item case.
That gives the buyer a further 4 days to pay or arrange pick up and pay cash.
If no response, close the case. You get your fee back, buyer gets a well deserved strike and you are free to relist.
Then add the buyer to your blocked bidders list and set blocks on your account if you haven't already to prevent those with strikes from buying on your account.
Neither party can leave feedback after that.

also, add them to your blocked bidders list so they can't pull the same stunt again

Unfortunately you can't prevent people from bidding and not paying, but you can block serial non-payers from bidding in your eBay seller settings.
