I believe the feedback system is outdated in needs a major overhaul. Unfair negative feedback is not good for the seller and definitely not good for eBay because it turns buyers away. In a time with so much online competition ebay does not want to lose business and needs to re-think its feedback policy.
Here's a few suggestions I have and your input would be appreciated.
1. Feedback should not be positive, neutral, negative. Scrap it. It should be just feedback comments. Buyers can still read through comments etc.
2. Sellers can leave comments for buyers (again not pos,neg etc.. just comments)
3. Feedback time limit should be 30 days. Why do buyers need 2 months to leave feedback?
4. Keep the DSR ratings. They are more rellevant and can be viewed with the comments.

nonny, so true!
Mostly it's telling me as a buyer (don't know about other people) that the seller is frustrated, angry, upset - all the reactions and normal feelings of someone wronged without a slightest chance of doing anything about it if buyer didn't contact them at all!
I don't know why is everyone so surprised to see anger in some seller's responses, you get that when someone's credibility is in question - much more natural reaction than those sickly back bending offers, pleading and apologies to someone who more often than not doesn't deserve it.

Registered is $3.20 not $3.90, and it goes away Monday week for parcels anyway. There are plenty of alternatives to registered parcels - C&S with signature, for one. Cheaper than the equivalent satchel, even with signature required, which gives the same level of protection as registered.

Well, I think it can! A seller who gives a firm but sensible response (not talking of bowing or grovelling) will be more likely to get my business than a seller who is rude and offensive and uncontrolled. As a seller I can understand sellers' frustration and anger with some buyers, but unprofessionalism is not a good selling point . . .

And what profession does one have to have to sell on Ebay?
Or indeed what level of education, literary skills.. etc.
Always wandered about that, " being professional" or "non professional" is a catch cry of one and all around here.
But to be able to sell/buy on Ebay - do you have to go to school for that (not just a general education, I mean some special school or course in order to become prefessional at this as well as leaving f/back, or is it OK for amateurs too?
I would have thought that this is a perfect place for those without any profession to be able to make a little money.
Also, surelly a lack of education or a profession doesn't autamatically renders one dishonest or not fit to conduct business on Ebay - or anywhere else for that matter.

Let me clarify, when I refer to 'unprofessionalism' I am referring not to education or literary ability but those comments which are unnecessarily rude, inflammatory or vindictive.
To read my comments as inferring that sellers with a lack of education or 'profession' renders them dishonest or unfit for business is very skewed (to put it mildly).
High Education or literary skills do not make someone necessarily a good seller, but manners are imperative for true success in any situation. And like many people, I appreciate those who can maintain their dignity when replying neutral/neg feedback. It's not seeing the person on their entirety of course, but it gives you a small glimpse. Which is all feedback can really do.

Thank you for clarification nonny, I didn't know what profession everyone was/is always refering to when talking about f/back responses.
As I am not English and my English language skills leave a lot to be desired! I had to look up "profession" and the true meaning is that is educational standard in specific field awarded by appropriate educational faculty.
Now I see that we are all talking about manners - what I didn't know is why the frase non professional is used instead of ill mannered. hence my previous comment.
And I totally agree, good manners are vital in any social situation, probably more so than in a business one as we all know that in a corporate enviroment lots of bosses uses expletives at every turn - even when addressing the board or dressing down someone - step into any office and you will not have to wait long to hear it. The worst ones are those who are brilliant at what they do! It seems to go with the teritory!
Again, thanks for the explanation and have a fun night!
