Follow on question to another person previous post on NON PAYING BIDDERS

as a seller, is it worth leaving Feedback of sorts to warn others that a buyer didn't pay ? I know it will show as a Positive (I miss the old days when they could get Neg's) but if worded correctly, at least if any one bothered to read, they would clearly see it is a Negative.....In the past on my seller accoun I have left EG:   N E G A T I V E - NO CONTACT NO PAYMENT . Is this worth it or best just to lodge disput and move on?

Agreed you can't leave a positive feedback with a negative comment.

But you can leave whatever follow-up comment you like (except racist, abusive etc of course - there's a list).

Sticks out like a sore thumb in their feedback.

I find it useful as a seller to know if they have a history of non-payment.

Make sure you leave the initial feedback before the unpaid case closes, something like "thank you for shopping" or whatever  - all true - then follow up with a non-paying bidder statement well after it's closed.

I can't see how it would be useful for you given all your items ae BIN. By the time you get to see their feedback, they've already hit the button. It's a bit late then. If they have a history of non payment, they find they can't buy from me.

Anywayz.. .it's not really up to you to question what I find useful, is it?

I was just curious. Nothing more.

I find it concerning that people are encouraging the OP to violate policies. Even writing a negative reply is against policy, which can also be removed.

Not true Tipsy..... not in T&Cs. It reads pretty clearly about the removal of a neg feedback comment for a positive rating, but not the follow-up or reply. Whereas further on it does mention about removal of follow-up and reply.

I've only done a few, but all still there.

Wouldn't make sense either. Of course sellers can follow up on initial feedback in a negative way, sales can go pear-shaped for all sorts of reasons besides non-payment.

I find it concerning that posters are misleading others about what eBay policies actually are.

Leaving negative follow up comments to prior positive feedback left for buyers is not against policy (unless comments are eligible for removal under general feedback policy)

OP what I do is along the lines of what Poppy does.     For non payers I leave a bland comment such as "Thank you for buying-it-now"   then do a follow up comment along the lines of "Disappointed no contact or payment made" or "Did not make payment or contact"

At a minimum, if you have struck a buyer with a conscience that happens to read their own feedback it may serve to discourage them from purchasing without paying.

I have done it with no trouble. I am really positive they have not paid ...lol. Think you will find they can do much more than 2 non paying bids before ebay bother to do anything. Just means they can not bid on items when sellers have blocks in place of 2 negatives. And after 12 months that no longer counts and they can start again. And too many sellers belive the stories and do not put in a non paying stike. Some are genuine and I have believed them myself, gosh things do happen in this day and age- but I do check on the feedback too to see if this is a re-occurance.

Look at those sellers who get about 30 negatives over about 3 weeks before ebay even remove them, yet they keep on listing after they have many negatives. After all most of us will wait 10 days for an item to be delivered before we realise we have been stung by a dodgey seller

That's very clever & gave me a good laugh too.Smiley Happy

I am sure you are right and people can be non paying bidders virtually forever before ebay does anything & if they get strikes it only stops them bidding from sellers who have their blocks in place.

I think very poorly of ebay for this. It would be perfectly easy for them to put automatic blocks on any bidder who had, say, 5 unpaid item  disputes in a 6 month period. They could make it for a short period if they wanted eg a month.

Then when the bidder went onto ebay to bid again, they could get an auto generated message that explained why their account had been suspended and for how long.

I realise that may just spur them on to start a new account but the thing is, opening a new account is tedious, so it would be inconveniencing them.

At the moment though, I don't know that it is worth giving any non payer a positive green dot, even if the psoitive negative comment gets through as it is only making them look better.

If you have a look at members I'm following and look at the feedback for the one starting with S that has 8 followers, it's proof that buyers can constantly not pay and nothing happens. Although having no recent feedback eBay may finally have stopped her. I know not all of the 800+ sellers would have opened a dispute, but you'd have to assume at least half did. She has another account too that was full of similar comments. Most of her purchases were for clothes. It should never have been allowed to go on that long, but that's eBay looking after their buyers for you.

I am not sure how a positive green dot with a follow up comment stating they did not make payment makes them "look better"

For sellers that never look at feedback whether a buyer has 15 or 16 positives or 233 or 234 positives etc etc is irrelevant isn't it ?

Cat, that is totally true.

Most sellers wouldn't see the bidder & their number till after a bid or buy had been placed.

But I don't see the score after a person's name as being totally irrelevant.

A person with a score of 16 'looks' like a newbie.

A person with a score of 233 looks like a well established member who is likely to be reliable. At a casual glance.

A person whose score went into the negative would look dodgy.

Just say you have a person who habitually fails to pay. They may get several strikes yet may also get lots of little green dots from unhappy sellers.

Let's say their score reaches over the 200 mark, 100% positive of course.

Let's say they decide to branch out into selling & list dozens of things at once.

I realise it is a buyer beware world and maybe people should look up feedback but I'd guess there could be plenty of buyers out there who see a seller with a great score, 100% positive  and bid, thinking the seller looks fine.

To me, it would make more sense if sellers issued an unpaid item strike against a non paying bidder and I would like to see ebay deduct one mark from that bidder's total score for each strike. I think that would give everyone a truer indication of a member's standing.
