Free listing promotion is not free

I have just received the latest free listing promotion to list as many items from 26.2.19 - 5.3.19

All looks good until you try to use it.

You will still get charged $1.65 for each one.

Not happy.

It's not showing with the expired promos. It's COMPLETELY vanished.  I'm pretty sure I didn't activate them so that'd be why there's no trace of it.  I planned on using the weekend ones because I know I'll get them tomorrow.

Re: Free listing promotion is not free

Customer support told me there has been a glitch which ended the promotion prematurely. They are working on getting it back live in the next 24 hours.

I can't help laughing at that. They've never fixed them before so I wouldn't expect them to fix it this time.

Re: Free listing promotion is not free

CS told me they had sent the issue to the Sydney marketing team. Which would definitely still be at work on Friday evening. Ha ha.

I was told not to list any more as they couldn't guarantee courtesy refunds after I knew there was a problem. I noted that it is not a courtesy to refund illegal charges.

With this and the charges for the GTC rollover I will have a reasonable dossier to send to the ACCC. Depending on what happens on 22 March. They still maintain that GTC rollovers will be free of charge.

I've got GTC listings that were created in early Jan that are due to roll over tomorrow and they shouldn't be any different to newly created GTC listings. My money's on them using one from my allocation.

So is mine. Because the change happened on 20 February. 22 March is the critical date.

I am annoyed because I was relying on the advertised freebies to carry me close to that critical date without exhausting my included store listings. At which point I could make an educated decision on whether or not to upgrade my store.

If everything I re/list today and up until the 5th comes off that 600, that will be a direct cost over that to me in listing fees until I am able to decide whether or not I need to upgrade my store.

Which is why I will be pursuing the matter.

eBay's T&Cs on all these promos gives them the right to end them early. However the same T&Cs specifically state, inter alia, - eBay reserves the right to vary the terms and conditions of the offer at its reasonable discretion by publishing revised terms on ebay.com.au.

Which didn't happen. They simply ended the promo at 1715.

Re: Free listing promotion is not free

This is the latest to me from eBay regarding this -

We received an email update from our marketing team in Sydney and that they need to end the promotion to avoid further issues. As upon receiving contact from customers having issues with accessing the promotion. And this is the main reason why they ended the promotion early.

As per our T&Cs, our marketing team have decided to end this promotion prematurely due to a technical issue.

If you have concern or clarification, please contact us back so we can assist you further.

So their excuse is that some members couldn't access the promotion, three and a half days in, so they had to end it. Without publishing anything on their website.

I encourage any others adversely affected by this to do what I will be doing, which is lodging a complaint with the ACCC.

The thoroughly prepared, cognisant and well-advised approach is definitely the best way to present a case to the ACCC. At a rough guess, you will refer to eBay as eBay rather than some amusing (or unamusing) opprobrium

Re: Free listing promotion is not free

This was the first promo in a long time that I was actually eligible for and it was working for me. Now eBay has completely screwed me up and I am soooo angry with them!!! Arrggg

Re: Free listing promotion is not free

This promotion has been removed altogether as it says  "no insertion fees".  It only applied to insertion fees.   I used some of it and when I asked why it had been removed the chat rep said.....................it affected members!    I replied "yes its affected me and I wish for it to be reinstated. Advised   my feedback ( complaint ) was being forwarded to marketing reps.  Chat ended.
