Grrrrr to Aus Post posties

I was just sitting here, funnily enough reading this forum, when I could hear a motorbike outside. I thought awesome, mail man is here.

I wait, for a knock or for him to take off, but he is taking too long so I peer out the window.....and what do I find?

Postman writing out a card for me to pick up item from post office!

What the? He didn't even attempt to come to my front door to see if I was home to sign for it!

Well didn't he just cop of mouthful from me!

I wouldn't have believed the launching and hurling stories but some time back experienced a loud 'bang' of something flying into the security screen. Omigosh, rush out to check, nobody to be seen but a small parcel rocking to and fro on the ground. Glad it was something unbreakable. Not sure what is worse - the Olympic Games with parcels or the squeak squeak squeak of the Postie's motorbike as it stops and starts all up and down the road (maybe some of the profits could go to fixing whatever the problem is with the bike?). Makes my eye twitch like Scrat!

The Parcel contractors are good though - they always come to the door and knock. Or have been known to hide the parcels somewhere safe and slip a card under the door telling me where they are ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Grrrrr to Aus Post posties

Oh dear I have started something.

But I'm certainly going to put my two bobs worth in because I too used work for Aus Post, very long hours at night 9.15pm - 5.30am sorting the mail.  And what a boring andumping dumbing job, but do you know what?  Australia post pay very well and they get loads of benefits that other agencies don't.  It was the best damn job I ever had whilst at uni.  I got 5 full uniforms including shoes socks and belts, about three different types of jumpers, jackets and wind coats....the superannuation is extremely good.  What more do you want?  I was one of the lowest paid staff there, and was still on a high wage.

i know I wasn't a postie, but I made many friends that are posties, and their entitlements are just the same.  The wage is high enough for what they do?  They drive a bike around all day delivering things.....

Why on earth is it a thankless job?  I pay a top premium for my mail to be delivered and to be delivered safely.  Part of the job is to go up and knock on doors and deliver mail.  Just do your job?  Do be so lazy.  We pay for things to be delivered with signature then I certainly expected the people delivering it to do what I paid for.   Especially if I am going to be paying $2.95 for it.

And I know that my mail service is contracted for the parcels and letters together, and that the two guys do it together.  I love the parcels dude.....not so much the letter dude right now

I'll advise ANYONE who pays me this much for nothing....! We do need to be loyal to the government of the day.

Re: Grrrrr to Aus Post posties

I'd love to get cards in the mailbox notifying me of something to pick up at the post office. 5 out of my last 6 deliveries had no card left and I only found out they were waiting at the PO by checking the tracking numbers online. For the 6th delivery (last Monday) the postie handed the card to me personally - he had my package in his bag but couldn't give it to me since he'd forgotten to bring his 'signing gizmo' - therefore I couldn't sign for it and had to go to the post office next day to pick it up.   Great service - NOT!

Yes, this is extremely common - -and the cause of many a PayPal dispute.

Re: Grrrrr to Aus Post posties

So Aus Post provides a dismal service apparently because the posties aren't paid enough, and yet we are charged through the roof.

If an independent trader or store or something treated their customers like this, they would have gone out of business.  But Aus Post just gets to raise it's prices

Awesome
