Lol, i was just doing a search in Stamps > Postal History......
53,135 listings in that one category...
when I clicked AUSTRALIA ONLY ....109 listings
hmmm I wonder what chance the Australian seller has of being found among all that if a lot of Australian buyers don't know they can isolate the rest of the world to see what is on offer locally by clicking Australia Only . ???
I hate to think what it is like in say a clothing section or handbags etc.

Search is excruciatingly frustrating. I would not want to be a buyer here on a regular basis, unless it was an exceptionally specific item. Even though, search is not infallible.
Was trawling through womens clothes...looking for vintage 1950s skirts...ended up on a rockabilly page...but had to click australia only...every time I did a new search. What's with that?? I figured it would have changed by now. What a bore for any person, from any country if you just want to hunt your own turf.
Gave up....and the flashing ads on both sides...are entirely irritating. Ebay certainly is HUGE now. Glad I moved most of my stock elsewhere, to where I am not allowed to say...:) jilly

Thought I would have a look at wall clocks to see what was available. First 3 pages all UK listings then an Aussie then more UK listings which all looked the same. Seeing as how I design and sell wall clocks myself I thought that's exactly what I will do. Have designed myself a lovely clock with my dog on it with the ocean in the background. I might add I couldn't find one of my clocks listed. So much for an Aussie site.

Yes, for months it was all CHINA, then all US, now it's all UK items that appear in the hundreds.
I wonder if when the UK buyers do a search if they are inundated with listings from we aussies ????????
I have noticed if I do a search 3 or 4 times in the one day [& this is REALLLLY strange] that my item shows up - quite often as the first item Newly Listed - after the 4th search which is quite often a few hours after I listed it.
Ebay has a PACIFIER in place I would say...if you search often enough their software is able to pick it up & pacifies you lol.
I have also noticed after the first 2 days I rarely pick up any further watchers. Once upon a time you picked up 1 or 2 every second day.
Ebay has become too big, I think if we get one bid we're doing well......it means SOMEONE found us.

It's to try and plug the hole that has been created by all the Aussie sellers leaving Ebay.
Gather back the numbers by using overseas traders to plug that hole.
The real illusion are the numbers themselves (until you take a proper look).
Why the illusion - because they don't want more large numbers of people following the "trend" (it actually shocked them big time that people did what they said they were going to do-close their accounts).
We are not here to hurt you ebay.
In a friendly environment, everybody learns, grows and most importantly of all SUPPORTS each other - please join in Ebay, you're most welcome.

You might find this facebook post interesting (on eBay's page) http://www.facebook.com/eBay.com.au/posts/539490159411727?notif_t=like
Strange that we can not communicate with eBay on here, but we can on facebook and twitter.
And had a bit of a chat with them. More should do it.

I thought it was interesting that ebay seemed to jump onto the facebook thread...perhaps they are looking for statements that can be used in court against the seller.
......remember all the new legalities we had to agree to.....no class actions, no using the word ebay without explicit permission, yadayad.....they KNEW what they were about to get up to & made us all ACCEPT their terms to continue trying to eke out a living........while they were implementing changes to thwart most of our attempts to be found.
THAT is their interest in that thread & damage control.

As Australian law provides for class actions, and eBay's T&Cs cannot override Australian law, it doesn't matter (if enough of you have a legitimate case) what you agreed to.
In such an instance.

'and eBay's T&Cs cannot override Australian law' - why not? It's not like they pay any company tax here, they do what they like. By reporting your details and activities to the ATO - that's the trade off.

It's a small thing called "The Constitution", or more formally known as "Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act"
Here is a copy of section 5 for your perusal and consideration
"5 Operation of the Constitution and laws [see Note 3]
This Act, and all laws made by the Parliament of the Commonwealth under the Constitution, shall be binding on the courts, judges, and people of every State and of every part of the Commonwealth, notwithstanding anything in the laws of any State; and the laws of the Commonwealth shall be in force on all British ships, the Queenโs ships of war excepted, whose first port of clearance and whose port of destination are in the Commonwealth."
