Has my PayPal been hacked?

Couldn't acess my PayPal account.

Kept saying I've been randomly chosen for a security check. 

Asked me to confirm details and creat a new password which I did and I still can't access my account. Keeps asking me to confirm passwords.

Have I just allowed myself to be hacked?

I managed to log onto my PAYPAL account using an iPHONE and have discovered:

1. My account balance hasn't been touched

2. There are no withdrawal transactions pending & 

3. There are no new bank accounts attached to my account

I have changed the password on my PAYPAL account using the iPHONE.

Oh, great news, sounds like all is good.  I had a similar experience a few months back, and likewise I had logged into paypal via ebay and it did appear to be a genuine random security check and all has been good since.  I just thought the questions were a bit peculiar in your case.  Given that it wasn't all completely straight forward I would still do as padi suggests & ring paypal tomorrow for peace of mind

UPDATE

Rang PayPal this morning and spoke to someone in the U.S.

Turns out PayPal WAS doing a RANDOM SECURITY CHECK!

Apparently they do exist... random checks that is.  As previously mentioned I did not respond to or even open any email. This occured after I clicked onto View PayPal transaction and entered my normal password.

Hope this helps others with regard to this.
