The majority of my sales used to be to the USA and Europe. But now postage and insurance are just so absurdly high it's no longer viable to ship internationally, so for the most part I don't even offer to any more.
Are many Aussie sellers still shipping overseas?

Quite the opposite, actually. Just started opening up my listings to select OS destinations, based on the theory that it doesn't cost me anything to let buyers decide what's too expensive, and if they do decide it is... Well, I'm no worse off than if it wasn't available to them. ๐

It costs over $20 to send a CD overseas, with tracking.... and around the same to send a single comic book. Buyers for those things will just look to their local market where the postage is a fraction of the cost I can offer.

Fair enough...but I did answer the question your OP asked. Or did I miss something and that's not the point of the thread? >_O

No, I was just pointing out that it's no longer competitive to sell internationally due to outrageous postal costs, at least in my experience.
If you have a different experience or some tips, I'd be interested!

that would depend on what you are selling, and its availability overseas.
antiques, collectables, interesting one-off items will always sell internationally

I only sell a couple of things to NZ, the rest is now a complete waste of time.

In both directions the shipping has got higher and despite the exchange rate I don't buy much from the US these days because of the shipping costs and it seems less people want to ship via the 'cheaper' non signed for airmail.
In contrast I am happy to 'take the risk' with ordinary airmail - receiving and sending.
At the moment with selling I would probably be more inclined to sell lower value/replaceable items overseas or where I am willing to wear the cost should something go wrong (I also prefer to stick to items that can be shipped via cheaper methods such as letter rates/prepaid, no frills, no pretty stamps etc).
And lastly for those items I am willing to ship overseas I will probably put a request in the item description that overseas buyers please contact me prior to bidding (that way we can chat about postage costs/risks and take it from there)

To send overseas, if you wanted PP protection, was always expensive. I gave up listing with "worldwide" shipping some time ago because the handful of people from o/s interested in my items were not happy with the postage costs; some just did not buy when I explained that for my PP protection I will only post with on line tracking and signature options, others then abused me because some other sellers were willing to send by ordinary airmail. I was also concerned that if somebody buys and then claims SNAD, and sends it back, I will be out of pocket the $100+ postage cost. It just was not worth the hassle.

I still have my listings visible for international buyers. Like digital_ghost suggests it costs nothing to list and it is up to the buyer to decide if its to expensive. Around about 8% of our business comes from the US and Canada.
One of the interesting lessons I've got from this is that if we regularly have OS buyers paying $6-10 more than our Oz customers for the same item then perhaps the pricing on that item may be a bit low!
