I have been a member of EBAY even before it was EBAY. I cannot remember the name at this point of time. It was a great place to visit and it was loved by everyone. I now only sell on 1 account but this is my posting account. My Question? Why is there so much Bickering on EBAY these days. Someone is always complaining about EBAY fees, EBAY rules EBAY postage Paypay Holdings, and it goes on and on. Then you have users having a go at each other, What ever happened to the good old days?

we live in a modern world which has become very 'me me me'
the complaining and arguing is just a part of that.
on thinking about it, whilst a lot of the complaints are a bit silly and others are very serious, isnt that what makes our country the best in the world?
we can complain, we can argue, we can even call our leaders stupid know nothings that should be hung without fear of our door being knocked down in the middle of the night.
(although this last ones becoming more likely with the terrorist scares)
we all have a right to be silly pratts without fear of being locked up. theres a good chance id get a close fitting jacket in some countries.
to be able to express ones views be they right or wrong is so wonderful in australia. as long as no one gets hurt of course.
the old saying is i think, 'i may not agree with your view but i'll fight to the death so you can have it'
we can all slso choose to ignore anyone we dont agree with.

linumac_0 wroteI remember Charlie brown I alo remember Linus but I do not understand what a character in a cartoon show has to do with me., I am almost 70 yo and so why cant we go back to the old days. This is what i mean in my first post. Nobody wants to get along. Evertone complains about Everything. 25 years ago everyone would have a laugh. Auction Sales I tjhink something or other was when I joined up and my account is still active as in my first post I was a lurker just watching Everything
I think this paragraph sums your attitude up very well.
You are elderly and don't want to keep up with an evolving world. Like it or not, we can not go back to what you call the good old days as much as some of us might like to.
I prefer to look back on the good old days fondly but live in the real world of today, warts and all.
We can still have a laugh....well I can and I know a lot of the posters here can also have a laugh within the constraints of board posting rules. If we overstep the mark the Moderators will pull us into line.
And before you label me a yougster who knows nothing....I am older than you and I know that there are other members posting here who are even older than me.

In the beginning online selling was new, it was almost like a clique, which creates more of a club/bond/assimilation, in which trust and understanding can develop. Now it has grown into mainstream where you are dealing with the entire population and there is nothing special or unique about being an Ebay member.
Therefore wariness develops, and also the reason more automated rigid controls are in place.
Ebay is now part of the big bad world and everyone in it. Greater anonynimity breeds lack of trust, tolerance and respect.
You can't wind that clock back.
Remember cash in the mail and money orders? Now sellers get grumpy if there isn't an immediate cleared paypal payment in their account. Likewise buyers want to see a verified tracking event within a day of paying.

I agree, we have to move with the times.

I haven't been on ebay as long as you, but it must be getting on for at least 16 years now.
I have been on the internet for much longer though-since 1996, which was well before most people.
Back then, I tried out some chat sites. I was mainly on US sites as that is where most internet users were! But I remember chatting to Russian reporters, authors, mainly university people. It was usually friendly, I learnt a lot about computers on those sites.
I think it was because they were small and no one expected others to be experts, it was all new.
As the internet spread, all that changed and chat sites went from mainly friendly to more and more crude. I gave them up at that point.
So I think any changes with ebay are possibly related to size, every man and his dog is online now.
And professional sites are the norm. Selling sites have all smartened up beyond recognition in the last 5 years.
But.. although I haven't been on ebay as long as you, I have been on a fair time and just let me say, not everything was rosy. I had a few times (as a buyer) in the early days where I was livid as I went out of my way to make a special trip to a bank, paid over my money, got nothing.
I felt ineffectual and frustrated and angry. All I could do was give a neg and even not that sometimes if the seller was kicked before I went to give FB.
If I could have complained anywhere I would have. Maybe these boards were around then, but if so, I didn't know about them.
And US ebay back then!!
I used to go on just to read the feedback. No 80 charatcer limits back then-I have never seen such vicious fights back and forth between sellers/buyers. I felt like breaking out the popcorn at times. So it wasn't all sweetness and light back in those days either.
On the other hand I have been on various other message boards since 2000. Bickering is par for the course at times. I am convinced it adds a bit of interest as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

What do you mean
This was meant to be a welcome.
Most of our age grew up with Snoopy.
I am more than likely your elder, seems I am most peoples elder these days.
No offense meant, just a comment on the boards these days.

Point taken Linumac
Things get taken far too seriously at times ..... by the way I'm an oldie too, so maybe my opinion doesn't count !!
