How are Ebay Global Shipping allowed to cancel your order and then take ownership of the item

We're sorry to let you know that your recent purchase through the Global Shipping Program from XYZ Seller can't be completed.

The item in question has been deemed restricted. This could be due to import/postage restrictions or eligibility requirements within the Global Shipping Program. The item won't be sent to you, nor returned to your seller.

Don't worry! Your full refund will be processed back to the original payment method within 72 hours. You may notice two separate refunds; a refund for the item and a refund for the postage and import costs. No further action is needed.

This means they have cancelled my order without an option to sort out what the issue is. This is a rare fuel tank for a 40 year old motorcycle. I do not want a refund, I want the item I bout and paid for. Surely Consumer Law applies here?

Aust consumer law will not mean a thing for an eBay item from overseas.

The GSP has a history of not shipping fuel tanks.  It is even in their lists of things they don't send.

Butter knives are also not allowed.

Next time you find an item that GSP might not send, you need to contact the seller before buying and request they opt out of GSP for that item.

It might still not be able to be sent, but at least Pitney Bowes won't have it.

Hi Strange enough I did ask the seller if there was a better option to send the item and they insisted on using Global Shipping.

 Thanks for your response.

This is just so frustrating that they can take a perfectly good, rare item and toss it away..

They don't toss it away. Most seized items get sold.

The fuel tank may not have seen the light of day for 40 years, but 40 years ago, it may have had fuel in it at some point, so they refuse to allow it to be sent for that reason. It could have been cleaned to within an inch of it's life, but it's still not enough. Even if it was brand new, they wouldn't send it. Don't feel bad. They refuse to send some musical instruments as well.

As for sellers who insist on using the GSP, they like it because it offers them full protection should anything go wrong. Once they post the item to the GSP hub, that's it for them. Item didn't arrive? Not my problem. Item arrived damaged? Take it up with PB.

Sorry you didn't get the part you really wanted.

A seller is unlikely to forgo their protection because you want to import something that is restricted

You had the option of either insisting on another method or not buying,  don't blame GSP for you going against their guidelines.

I posted my response to your empathic caring reply an had it removed, Yet your very caring response to a honest question based on your obviously non biased, totally informed approach remains on the forum.Go figure!

May I suggest , at the risk of being banned , that your view point closely mirrors the GSP , who it seems knows all and is therefor best placed to affect others with their well informed decisions, without even contemplating offering an option to remedy or taking the time to consider an alternative view point.

Anyway that said,  remove my post again and confirm my theory. At this point in time I really dont care.

It is up to you to ensure all import approvals for restricted items, are in place before an item is shipped.
