There are a couple of things that supposedly give a listing a boost in Best Match search rankings, such as being a Top Rated seller, you can check here - http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/searchstanding.html - to find out a bit more about eBay's recommended listing practices and improving search ranking.
Best Match is the default search order, but there are a lot of buyers who do not search that way, so IMO while some of the recommendations can be useful, I certainly don't take them as gospel. ๐

to improve ratings
1. Move to China.
2. list 2,000 items that are identical,
3. Offer free postage so Ebay get a bigger return from you in FVF
4. convert from Best match to time ending soonest so you get items finishing soonest first.
5. fill your listing with spamming keywords like the foreign listers do.
Sorry that this response is rather cynical but with changes to policies it is hard to keep a straight face.
