How do sellers ship for so cheap in Australia ???

How do so many Australian sellers ship for so cheap? They sell items that will not fit in a letter (thicker than 20mm) for way cheaper than the cheapest Australia post contract parcel rates.

For example, search ebay for "USB car charger", select "Australia Only" in location, and there are heaps of people selling chargers (including shipping) between $2.50 and $4.00. HOW DO THEY DO IT?? Do they just sent it in a letter, and hope no one checks it is thicker than 20mm? All those items are way thicker than 20mm

When shipping was high cost , I reduced quoted cost of postage from the UK for ram memory by asking friendly Sellers to place module between 2 appropriate cardboard strips and tape them up,  then post in envelope as per Royal Mail international Standard Letter or something , like 80% reduction in cost with delivery in seven days ! was a long time ago .

Hi ,  is easy for a ma&pa operation working in the evenings running an ebay virtual shop from the family garage with little extra overheads

ie  item = $6 , shipping listed as $4 (to encourage Buyers by looking not much more than implied stores retail)

total = $10

actual shipping = approx $7.50  pre-paid parcel post padded sachel envelope up to 500grams

profit = $2.50    typical same sort of items sold per month = 300

gross profit = $700 per month , $8.400 per annum, tax free

Under taxable threshold of $18.000

Vacation in HK this year !

Yes this is exactly how its done lol :))))))))))))))))))

Re: How do sellers ship for so cheap in Australia ???

Actually we have not discussed import taxation obligations yet, threshold AU$800 or AU$1100 or something ..... and if gross inputs per annum for Oz registered Sellers exceed I think from memory AU$50,000 there is the matter of GST .

But hey , no drug dealers get busted for taxation indiscretion so why should anyone operating a benign and productive demonstrably ATO recognisable but no overhead enterprise be concerned  ?

As for exported items postage costs , relative to the export country to Australia, will most likely be formalised backroom deals between countries and consolidated shipping at export departure.

In my imagination with similarities with reality being unintended :

Small packets low flat rate with Localpost  from os for it's local delivery component ( an export income so no GST).The shipping of small packets bundled together and thrown into air- freight containers that has extra space that has already been paid for by a company exporting expensive large goods.

Got to also remember that merchandise storage space in some mass low item price countries is super expensive so cheaper to sell at near loss for accidently slow moving items or by local wholesale enterprises that buy bulk over-production / end of enterprise / nos lots

 at auction.

one moment please : " Small packets low flat rate with Localpost  renumerated from overseas for it's local delivery component ( an export income so no GST)" .

Re: How do sellers ship for so cheap in Australia ???

Import taxes and GST cut in at $1000 item cost and are levied on the item cost+postage at present but it is supposed to change mid next year.

Mandatory GST registration cuts in at $75,000

I only commented on what I could make sense of Padi but decided against making a comment on the rest incase it was me who was having a bad day.

I could not let such blatant misinformation remain without correction although I think most of the regular boardies know the correct information.

Chinese sellers are subsidised for postage by their government and they also ship in bulk.
