How do you make store categories visible in listing alongside description?

Hi everyone,

Stumped again and feeling like a noob.

I've got it in my other store so I must have done it at some stage but I can't remember for the life of me how I did it.

I've checked on the boards, I've checked in Help pages, no luck!

I have store categories enabled and they are visible on the first page that opens up in the store. However, I cannot see store categories in the listing pages themselves. Other stores have a column to the left of each product description and the store categories can be seen there.

That's nice... I wish I had done more listings now ]:)

I think I'll give up on it now. I don't have time to figure this out. It may be a case of they start to appear later or once I've done more listings so I can't do much about it.

When I change the header and sidebar settings, there is an option to Preview your Listing Frame. When I check that, before I click on APPLY, it actually shows me how it should look and the categories are there. Once I click on apply and move to the store to click on the listings... no changes, no categories, no nothing 😞

When I've worked it out I'll come back and post what happened for future reference.

Until then, if anybody has come across this one before, please enlighten us all... it's got me stumped so far!!!

If you try creating a new listing and the store categories still don't show it may be that your template is too wide and there's no room for the sidebar.

You could try creating a new test listing without the template and see if the categories show up. If they do then you'll need to change your template. It is currently set at a fixed width, you could either change the width or set it as a percentage.

You're right but I have to get a listing ready that is an actual listing... if not, this is what happens:

The width of the template shouldn't affect whether the category menu shows on pages - usually, if it's wide, the left-hand navigation menu pushes it across and a scroll bar appears on the page. 

Sometimes the listing frame can take a little while to update, but it shouldn't be dependent on how many listings you have up. I can't really suggest anything that hasn't already been suggested, though, so not much help... :8}

I've done some checking and it looks like Sport might be right. I'm getting the coding changed in the template and retrying as soon as I can possibly do it.

I can't list any more until I do that because then it will take double the time to change everything again. So, my 1000 items to list will just have to stay unlisted and wait here in my stock room for a couple of days :^O

Once I've done it, I'll come back here and let everyone know what worked and where the problem was for future reference.

WAF,did you mean to put the SALE items on sale logo just below that block standing in the doorway ? When you click on it,there are no sale items & the um er sentence is kinda :8}

categories will only show if you have items IN that category, I can only see you have 2 different items (with variations) showing, so of course the other categories will not show yet

I usually don't buy photos for any of my online work. Anything I want, I just photograph. But this one... he was cute and worth every dollar I spent to buy him 😛 ]:)

That's where eBay puts the SALE thingy when you want the full version of top and side bar. However, no sales as yet, so they will show up eventually.

Also, putney, you're right. However, the sidebar Categories are showing in the store (first) page but not in each listing. This is probably due to the fact that I have put a template in the description, effectively rendering it wider than it should be and not leaving space for the sidebar.

I will come back once I've changed it to let you know if Sport and I were right about this one but, until then, it will just have to wait :_|

Have you found out how to fix this for your listings? I've been battling with the same problem for my listing; not having the left bar show up even though I have it selected in "Store Header Features". And if I go to my store front page though the items appear in the catagories, so they are populating at least just not advertising.  😞  Any help/feedback would be great.
